You didn't rate Kennedy's game? He had close to 30 possessions, kicked 3 goals and seemed pretty busy from what I saw of it.
Kennedy clear and away best on for me.
Coffield battled admirable, Gardner looked good defending (not so with ball in hand), Duryea got alot of it, Jones had flashes and Smith fought against BTC all day with strong tackles.

If English got injured would Smith get a game? Is Smith a realistic future first ruck?
He's a completely different type to English. His method is body on body with little or no jump at the ball-ups and throw-ins.
What he lacks in size he tries to make up with body movement and is generally more than competitive.
As a comparison, I'd say he broke even with Tom Campbell against Casey even though Campbell is bigger and more experienced. He is developing his all round game in the VFL but I don't think he's ready to match bigger, stronger rucks at AFL level yet. If we had to promote him as a break glass option he would certainly bring his very best to the contest.

Still only 19. Wouldn’t be surprised if he takes until he’s 24-25 like Tristan Xerri. Very similar bulldozer style that requires years of building the strength for.

I didnt get a chance to watch the game but purely on stats

Hynes really needs to find the footy a bit more

Hynes definitely and Dolan too
Jesus a lot of our supporters have zero understanding of player development and understanding playing small medium fwd is the toughest position in the game and harder at vfl level
than AFL level. it’s not about possesions what so ever. Both boys have showed enough and as they get fitter and understand the system and their role better they will continue to get better. Bright futures the both of them.

Actually if you had any understanding of player development you would understand that part of that development as a small forward is to actually get the football enough times as well as create pressure to influence the scoreboard. They currently do not get enough of the football for their role, therefore they are back in the VFL to work on that. That is both factual and is part of their development.

At no stage has any poster here not said said they do not have Bright Futures.

Dolan in particular reeks class when he gets it. When you only get it 3 times in a full game as he did against GWS he has to work on his positioning and running patterns off the ball and why he was put back into the VFL. For the first 2 1/2 quarters of the VFL he was not getting enough of the ball. In the last quarter and a half he had some influential possessions. Whether the coaches believe he has shown enough consistency will determine when he is back in the AFL.

However, to say 'its not about possessions whatsoever' is at best a very naïve understanding of what is required at AFL level for that role

Footscray has swung six changes for its Round 8 Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash with Williamstown.

Senior-listed Bulldogs Oskar Baker, Jedd Busslinger, Harvey Gallagher and Caleb Poulter have been recalled.

Phoenix Spicer has also been included, while Fred Valpied will make his debut.

Taylor Duryea and Arthur Jones have been elevated to the AFL side, David Cuningham and Ted Middleton will miss through injury, and Diesel Moloney and Matt Belbasis have been omitted.

The first bounce will be at 3:05pm AEST on Saturday 17 May, and be live streamed via the AFL website and AFL Live Official app.

They will also debut the 2025 First Nations guernseys designed by Kamilya Lowana White.

pipe down. i have read countless times on here supporters constantly be negative about out players it’s pathetic. Luke cleary best example got no afl traits and so on.
Most of the people on here wouldn’t get of the couch. Unlike you i have been involved in the game at a very high level and in development.
As a small fwd yes they need to get the ball and hit the scoreboard i didn’t say it wasn’t important but its less important than them
keep the defensive structures and running patterns while providing plenty of pressure and being competitive. Possessions and goals will come.

Massive assumption there Champ

You chose my comment noting nothing more than they both need to get more of the football.

A reminder:

You said "it's not about possessions whatsoever" which is what I quoted. Where did I say anything about you saying "As a small fwd yes they need to get the ball and hit the scoreboard i didn’t say it wasn’t important but its less important than them"

So stop making pious judgements about others opinions, particularly when YOU have no understanding about all posters, and on a lot of your points they actually agree with you, such as Cleary, I will also add L Kennedy and Buss, as they do have a very good understanding from experience about developing players in various positions on the ground
