15 mins to go and Bulldogs look home.

Report:

  • Jones looks well ahead of this level - lots of intercept marks
  • Busslinger also did well looking solid but still looks a little under strength
  • Coffield solid but I would have expected more. Doesn’t make mistakes but also doesn’t impact much and can’t see enough defensive mindset/desperation - bruise free
  • Duryea Dow’s have defensive minders and was good without starring.
  • Jacques was very smooth. Beautiful kick and mover. Doesn’t get a lot of it and still looks underdeveloped - maybe not yet ready - but looks to have a lot of talent and will get his chance soon
  • Gallagher. Ok but just seems missing something. He is fast but in the open but very slow in traffic
  • L.Smith - competitive without doing anything spectacular
  • Baker OK but still bad mistakes - he plays naturally but so often looks like he doesn’t know what to do
  • Poulter - 4 goals and looked dangerous as a forward. Finished off his work but does still show a lack of aggression - he backs off going for it
  • Hynes: clearly BOG. 30+ a goal, set up a few? Very good game - has star factor and confidence just needs a bit more size.

Kind of weird that Sellwood didn’t play since Bevo said in the press conference that he was

Must be an injury or want him fresh for Saints? Surely they don’t put him straight in though when he could have played VFL today.

I’m going with a knock or something

Pleasing that Buss had 26 possessions.

More pleasing that he chose to kick 21 of those.

Most pleasing that he went at 89%.

Surely ready to come back in.

The things keeping him out of the AFL side have never included his ability to rack up bulk uncontested possessions. He’s been doing that for two years at Footscray.

He's certainly a better option than Gardner. The only question I have is whether he is strong enough in 1 on 1s with bigger, stronger opponents at the higher level. Unless we play him we will never know.

Hynes has been clearly the BOG to half time. When he improves his fitness base and gets a little stronger look out
His junior swapping partner for a mid/forward role (Langford) is killing it for the Demons. Probably my favourite prospect from last year.

Hynes was damn close to him as a prospect and I thought he deserved to be taken a little earlier in the draft. Will be a slow burn though because his tank was pretty small in his underage year. I'm still pretty bullish on the finished Hynes product.

How did Gags go by foot today? I really feel like he's an AFL player if he cleans up his field kicking, and if he doesn't - he's not.

Buss at this stage is a 1-2 player who stays in the play, surely that helps us move the ball out of the D50 which is our struggle in high pressure games over the past 24 months.

He's about 1-2 clangers a game off playing seniors every week. Sounds like he was cleaner today.

No real mistakes from what I saw (I missed most of the 2nd).

Had a few nice low sizzlers out of defence.

Just needs games in the 1s now.

I only watched 5 -10 mins in the 2nd and all I saw was mistakes lol.

Kicked to a 2 on 1, missed kicked to Jones deep in defence and chose to stay down instead of being 3rd man up. At least two of those mistakes lead to scores from memory.

Buss doesn’t appear to be a key back like Jones or O’Donnell. He appears to be an outlet kicking intermediary, that’s about it. I see why he’s not getting a game. Those possession’s today were mostly uncontested.

Had 12 kicks from 19 disposals. Mis-kicks and aimless bombs not evident today. He's not what you would call a naturally good kick but is ok. Playing mostly midfield where he is still a work in progress IMO.

I think the endgame for Gallagher is backline. He's doing a midfield apprenticeship a'la Matty Boyd.

Hynes playing very well but he’s about the last type of player the senior side needs unfortunately. Maybe if we drop Sanders we could fit him in.

Jaques would have to be pretty close to getting in over Cleary or Bramble.
Happy to see him keep developing at VFL level. I agree I don’t think we can play both Sander and Haynes in seniors atm especially with both their propensity to handball more than kick

Like last year I think he's playing there out of necessity due to lack of midfield depth. I think he's actually a winger endgame not backline.
