I like the way he plays but just don't think he will get a chance here at The Lions. If he doesn't have interest from other clubs, I see him delisted at the end of the year. 😄

He won't be delisted.

Clips of Luke Beecken and Zane Zakostelsky from VFL Round 7.
(Note: ZZ's ruck clips are not representative of the whole game - there were as many, if not more, where he was beaten)

Zane Zakostelsky #21

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luke Beecken #17

ZZ looks a far better ruck prospect than Gallop.
Very mobile around the ground which you want to see.

He started very slowly in 2024 but came good in the back half of the year.
This year a similar start but the last 3 games he has come good two being helping out in the ruck
Looks like he prefers more freedom around the ground that a ruck gets, rather than the limited defense structure.

Beecken also putting his hand up should the selectors want to take a risk while we have Starch, Kiddy and Doedee not quite ready, although Doedee and Kiddy are close.

We have a top 10 player to match this year. Even if Beecken doesn't want to stay on here, it'd be silly to delist him when he could fetch a pick upgrade to help us match a bid.

Probably need dlanod help here.

There are some specific rules/conditions that have to be met, to be able to trade a rookie. Pretty sure we have to offer Beecken a contract and senior list spot, to be able to then trade him, if he doesn't want to take up the offer. Otherwise he walks as a delisted free agent.

Rookies are tradeable same as anyone else. Been for years, Sam Jacobs got traded off the rookie list. The key part is that the club trading for the player has to put them on their senior list. The only other part is the same as any other out of contract player - they need to be offered a new contract otherwise they're delisted and hence a DFA, albeit with one exception for rookie players - if they've spent two years on the rookie list and you're offering them a third on the rookie list, they can decline it and automatically become a FA.

There's a funky rule about how MSD rookies become free agents automatically but that doesn't seem to apply to Beecken since he's not on the list.

Edit: dug up Massimo D’Ambrosio since I knew it applied to him - it's the same rule as the rookie one I mentioned above, it's just that 1.5 seasons counts as 2 for MSD rookies. So we'll need to offer a senior list spot to avoid Beecken having the option to delist himself, or we can offer a rookie spot if we're comfortable that he won't want out.

Ramsden looks handy for the Hawks. Unfortunately our record at getting talls from them hasn't been great lately. But if they get Oscar Allen it might be an interesting question to ask.
