Very impressive 85 point win against what was supposed to be a tough opponent.

Brain was good, has had a fair season so great to see him bounce back into form, Lloyd and Beecken good as well.

Reville BOG.

Torrent showed some good glimpses again.

Dev good apart from some sloppy disposal by foot.

McKenna, McLachlan, Ryan good up front.

Annable and Marshall look to have some class about them, both have elite endurance which will come in handy in the seniors.

I think people have been too quick fo write off Ryan
Yes I’ve liked him since he had to take on more of the ruck role lately. Often beaten by the other ruckman (in earlier games) due to his poor body work but continued to put in and contest. Seems to have lifted his confidence. Not sure he will make it at afl, but still a work in progress.

Well he pretty consistently has a lot of shots on goal in the VFL, he won't improve our goal accuracy though. He pretty hard to defend as well

Biggest disappointment is he doesn't offer anything in the ruck so probably limits himself to be a poor man's hipwood
He’s a poor man’s 4th div seconds player. I’d be surprised if anyone disagrees.

sat out the whole last quarter
Might be a sneaky chance to come into seniors then.

Gardiner for Payne, can't think of anyone else Ty could potentially replace unless we are going to leave Hipwood down back and omit someone else from the backline.

If I had to guess I would say it was normal load management though and he wont be playing seniors on Friday night.

Can't ruck and in my limited viewing I felt he is physically limited so will struggle to hold his ground and take a contested grab. He's a medium build floater (let's say like Gunston) then he has to be a sharp shooter who's both efficient in conversion and smart in his leading patterns. Or has a bigger tank to lead up n down to wing to provide relief mark on lead. I don't see any of it with him.

The VFL is his level.

Maybe he needs to kick 8 to be considered over Charlie next week
I don't think he's a chance to replace Charlie (or Kai) this week against Geelong. Though if either of them have another down performance and McLachlan kicks goals again next week, then he would have to be in the seniors post-bye.

I think the same of Oscar. Give him another run next week a week off for the bye and back to the seniors for round-17.

If Ah Chee doesn't play, we could try Gallop there.

The AFL article on the VFL.
We know it is mostly just taken off the stats though
..............................

Will McLachlan didn't make the most of his chance at AFL level earlier this year, but he may get another chance soon after a kicking a bag in Brisbane's 85-point VFL thrashing of GWS on Sunday.

The 2024 mid-season draftee kicked 6.3 from 10 disposals and seven marks in an eye-catching performance.

Veteran big man Oscar McInerney dominated in the ruck with 45 hitouts, along with 17 touches and seven clearances, while Deven Robertson was huge with 36 disposals, eight clearances and nine tackles.

Luke Beecken was the next busiest Lion with 26 touches and 10 marks, James Tunstill had 25, seven clearances and one goal, Bruce Reville had 23 disposals and a goal, and Academy product Sam Marshall also slotted one from 22 touches.

Brandon Ryan (14 disposals) and Connor McKenna (17) kicked three goals apiece, while Darcy Craven (15) kicked two.

Tom Doedee was solid as he continues to search for a Brisbane debut, gathering 14 touches and six marks, Darragh Joyce had 16 and six, while Shadeau Brain had 17 and five.

Returning from a senior debut last week Ty Gallop had just seven touches and kicked a goal.

Other senior Lions in action included Reece Torrent (12 disposals), Luke Lloyd (16) and Zane Zakostelsky (five).

Of course he can do whatever he wants. I'm not passing judgement, just making a statement of facts. Fagan never wants to send a message.
He rarely, if ever, sends a message through selection but we are not privy to his conversations with players behind closed doors.
Two things we know about Fages:
1. He rarely uses selection when players are out of form and almost always backs his best 22 players to the hilt.
2. He never ever vents on his players or the team through the media. His playbook response to questions about the poor performance of someone like Charlie is "...I would need to go back and look at the tape before I responded to that question"
He is the consummate relationships coach and hence the loyalty from players back to him and our amazing player retention history since he arrived.
My only recollection of Fages relegating "best 22 players" in recent times was with Rich and Gunston. Both were dreadfully out of form and even then he sort of "soft" dropped them back to a "training block".

I'm sure the 28 tackles is being put right up on the whiteboard and our calm, humble grandpa coach giving out an almighty spray as he's done before.

Fages dropped Payne after a horrible performance, (Carlton if I recollect correctly) however Payne was quickly brought back after one reserves game.
No other statements via a selection/non-selection of an established player that I can remember.

Those around the State League reports really are a bunch of garbage, all it is is a regurgitation of stats you can get on afl.com, it has no relevance to who actually played well and who did not... lazy "journalism".
If it's generated by ChatGPT, can it really be considered journalism?
