So what was Marshall doing positionally during this rounds game? The slightly unusual stats convinced me to have another look.

Q1 -Played wing, drifting forward. Set up defensive side off both forward stoppages and defensive fifty stoppages.

Q2 - Started across half forward line. Moved into the midfield halfway thru the quarter either side of a spell on the pine. Minimal opportunities though.

Q3 - Started across half forward again, pushing up to create an extra man around the ball. Early spell. Halfway mark back on into the midfield for a bit.

Q4 - Starts forward of the centre square again. Midfield close to halfway thru the quarter. Stopped watching after that brutal collision between our two inside mids.

So he is getting his midfield opportunities as the game goes on. When he is not in the midfield he is using his strong motor for ground coverage at a decent clip to impact plays with a bit of a license to roam. Clearance numbers are slightly misleading when you are a rotational outside mid/winger with Dev and Tunstill doing the grunt work. Compliments Gallop when Gallop is rucking I thought. Link up play excellent and can instigate offensive chains that suit our current gameplan.

Is a potential Berry coverage if needed and is more of a natural winger than say Levi who strikes me as a half forward flanker before he cracks this loaded midfield.

The future is bright.

Neither of those teams had a genuine second tall forward. They used Pittonet and Neale, neither of whom are that great up forward, though Pittonet did kick a couple. We also went short against Port, a team that does have two genuine tall forwards, and we gave up 7 goals combined to Georgiades and Lukosius. I really hope we don't go small.

Neale is playing as a genuine tall forward.

He hasn’t yet shown anything against us but he does play some good games, I have heard the media rave about him on occasions this year.
And the Geelong football club rate him and they seem to know what they are doing.

He's a ruck who they're trying to mould into a key forward, and I don't think it's succeeding. If you think we can get away with playing Lester on Naughton like we did with Neale, then I disagree with you.

Pretty sure Lester played on Cameron and Harris on Neale.
Gardiner will come in and play on Naughton imo.

Well, that explains why Cameron kicked four on us and Harris had 11 intercepts. We'd better not repeat that with the Bulldogs, because one of their forwards will rip us to shreds if we do.

Yep, key is up the ground pressure, no one can defend Sam Darcy on the lead from a lace out pass.

I am sure Fages and the team will be onto this, all good, I'm pretty confident of a win.

We are still no certainties to even make the 8 with our run into September, easily the hardest draw from now to finals, motivation should not be a problem.

Makes you angry when it was because of a completely avoidable act.

I'd love to go back and retrospectively suspend Ablett for his push on Stef Martin that meant he was off-balance and toppling towards the oncoming May. I couldn't believe he didn't get any discussion at the time. One of the more sickening moments of physical violence I've seen at the Gabba.

Probably fair as it was some sort of strike to the body, which should be suspensions. More annoyed that others dont get suspended for it despite similarity in strikes
