List Mgmt. 2025 Young Talent Time

I get the feeling the reason we’ve dropped behind the east in development is due to the goals & focus the clubs in the perspective leagues at development levels have & the resources available to the kids in each league.

The Coates Talent League teams are not really associated with senior clubs & hang their hat on how many kids get drafted equally to team success. In some cases it is more slanted to getting kids drafted. They represent a region & offer the country kids better access to resources due to where they are located.

I’m sure the WAFL clubs don’t have the same focus & the definitely don’t have the resources & therefore the quality of coaching that Coates League has. The very best will get through here, but a lot who have potential just don’t get the time invested in them needed to get to that next level.

We’ve all heard about Jye’s commitment & travelling to Perth from Busselton constantly throughout the year to be given that specialist training, a lot of kids who have potential fall away at this point.

Additionally having seen how EP have gone about it in the last 5 years, they have completely failed the kids in their country region with a lack of basic communication & resources.

I wonder with Hart whether it's a net benefit or net harm that he's in such a rubbish Colts team. On one hand, it's a good experience. Plus anything half decent often has his fingerprints on it. And he's tall enough that he might get the "too good to be stuck in the fwd line" midfield minutes (might have a questionable tank though). On the other, less chances to impress.

Still, decent sign to kick those 3 and show off his trademark agility on a few occasions (with a bit of luck). His behind might have been most notable though. Set shot 50 out from a holding the ball, breeze blowing towards him, and he smacks the top of the goalpost. Massive roost.

You'll take any freebie you can get in a comp where others are getting a better rub of the green. But looking at the top 3 of this year, if they make it they seem to be good profiles of players to have. You'd assume Whan's an outside player at the next level, but always good to develop the contested side. Hart's pre-season agility test numbers are great and you can never have too much of that type. And Nomlatyu is now playing KPD - can be that big athletic type that people are crying out for. Think he's played every position in the spine now.

I think looking at the list, Hart would need a pretty bad year to not get cat B listed. 3 of the leading players to be delisted / retired at this stage would be Delean, Sturt and Walters and Reid will probably be onball sometime in the next 3 years.

Additionally, they changed the rules right where he can stay there for longer if needed. Seems a no brainer for a free list spot.

Delean
Fyfe
Walters
Reidy
Sturt - if he doesnt get back and play AFL this year.
Aish ? Need to play AFL
Brodie - Delisted or move to rookie list
Narkle - ?? If he doesn't play AFL, then I don't think he should get another year
McDonald - I think he is gone. Draper and Davies have gone past him.

With the potential turnover, Narkle probably gets another year. That's a lot of likely names without even a trade request and assuming 90% of oy draft hand is spent on Pickett & Whan

With all the mature age players playing well this year, I would rather roll the dice on one of them than keep a known C grader., especially one with poor skills.

But what you said is more likely to occur.

I just see 8 other names where we are possibly picking 4 players from pick 50+ already.

but what if we got another Dudley, or Brice or .......................

It would be a good year to get a free agent who is best 22, but not top 10 so we are not forced to draft super deep or keep players we don't want.

One line from this article has got my jimmies rustled:

"The clubs want the review to show statistically where Indigenous and multicultural populations are and for those areas to be divided up as equally as possible."

You guys you have surely been around long enough now to realise that realistically - we don’t delist players with a year still left on their contracts. It’s just not something that’s done at freo.

So Brodie will be here next year unless someone wants to trade for him.
And Sturt will be here next year unless his leg literally falls off.

They are both contracted at Freo for 2026. They won’t be delisted and paid out or anything like that.

Also I still think that when Sturt is fit in a few weeks he will be back into this team in the forward line. Not convinced we are that good in attack yet and there is some seriously stern tests coming up in May/June for us.
The run home is also pretty tough. There will be plenty of escaped goats waiting to be dropped during the season if he can get himself fit

Didn't realise he was trying to delist contracted players haha. That makes more sense

Sturt had more goals per game last year than Bolton and Bolts cost us 2 first rounders. Unless he succumbed to his injuries, I do not see any reason why we would want him off our list. Makes no sense.
Agree, but it is also clear that goals don't tell you everything you need to know about Bolton.

Exactly, Bolton is a link player centre forward as much as he is a goal kicker. He can also be a mid field point of difference and also he frees up other players by taking the better defenders.

Brodie hasn't played in 3 years. He may the exception.

Yes. Bolton is a player the opposition need to have a strategy for, plus a plan B. Both likely to be required in every game, potentially every quarter.

I like Sturt, but realistically, finding the right matchup for him is enough.

We certainly don't want the rural nga zones redone here. The fact that WC, despite them being a behemoth that should via gestalt know everything there is to know, was too dumb to know that even though there are more people in the Pilbara than the Kimberly it will never produce any players because single middle age fifo's don't produce many children is something they should be punished for forever..

The arrogance of the west smug Eagles has been their downfall..

Sturt has 6-8 weeks before he's close to being fit..

He's also best 30, maybe even best 22 at his best.

Being contracted won't save him this year but the above will. Absolutely ridiculous to suggest he'll be delisted.

It's not comparable to a list clogger that hasn't played in over two seasons.

So I heard Fred Rodriguez won't play for South Fremantle this weekend against Peel as there's a game (1 of 2) starting on Sunday in Melbourne between the AFL draft prospects of 2025 vs Richmond VFL.

Squad list is in this page (if you can sort out which is the story and which is the promo)

🚨 NGA KLAXON 🚨
