List Mgmt. 2026 AFL Draft

The worry there is those 27-29 picks & trying to lure talent are up against all the Tasmanian concessions.
We will have a war chest to go spending but Tassies warchest will dwarf ours.
Nothing against Tasmania but they will have problems attracting players i feel.(Top echelon at least)

I'm hoping that we've got a plan to stagger the retirements of Lynch Prestia Broad & Vlastuin. Letting them all depart at the end of 2026 would leave a massive hole in terms of the experience that we have. For mine Prestia and Lynch 2026 then Tigga & Broad in 2027 would be ideal, but it's going to need a couple of Jonty Armstrong Sims & Fawcett to stand up and become genuine KPF options for us heading into 2027 for it not to impact too much.
Broad has already stated 26 will be his last year.

We get a good year to look at the ruck rules. Probably need 2 rucks to get through the rebuild. One post Nank and then another as our guys are in the latter stages like Maric then Nank (hopefully we can avoid a Hampson this time lol)

Add Ramsden & Madden as ones to watch too.

Reeves definitely an interesting watch with new ruck rules due to his size. Can the campaigner mark?
If we're talking rucks - Alex Dodson might only cost a 2nd rounder & ticks all the boxes at a young age.
Give it 12 more months & he'll be ripe for the picking.
Use 1st pick on best available & match Armstrong bid with junk picks.

Whilst he's the age of our other recruits I do wonder if they would rather grab a more mature guy for now and then grab another ruck later once that player is cooked. Although Nank was pretty young when we grabbed him so who knows.

Very much hoping we get at least 2 picks in (pending trades) before Armstrong.

I think that we all have to realise that we wont be hitting the draft in 2026.

It's already compromised by not having access to the top 2 picks, add in compo for Merrett & Butters to teams that could finish below us and our natural pick 4 (if we finish 15th) or pick 3 could blow out to picks 7 or 8. Even if we finish last we'll still only have pick 3.

2026 is the last year that we can access (buy) players without the competition of Tassies huge war chest, they'll also have access to 18 OOC players in 2027, those 2 things blow us out of the water and take the whole FA market out of the equation. They'll also be able to buy players who are contracted as they have to use some of those 1st round picks as trades. The combined power of their draft capital, access to OOC players and massive warchest virtually wipes out the player market.

We'll be using what is likely to be a relatively high pick (3-8) in a relatively good draft, combined with F1 2027 & F1 2028 plus F2's (with oppo's expectation that they'll be high picks) to buy players, doesn't really matter whether they're contracted or not, obviously FA's don't cost picks and there'll be a couple we chase, but we'll also be chasing contracted players on top of that. We'll also have a huge amount of cash to splash after banking the cap this year and next year, gotta use it or lose it.

This strategy has already been outlined by the list managers (and Yze), they are on record as saying that we'll be having a look at the players on the list this year and then hit the market hard to address the identified shortcomings.
I typically agree with what you have to post on here, but on this one I don't agree at all.
Firstly, Merrett isn't a free agent next year, he's contracted until 2027, so anything they get back from him will be a trade from the likes of the Hawks who will be further back in the draft than us.
Butters will get PA a Band 1 compensation, but I'm not convinced we'll finish above them while we give the kids more playing time.
There's no way we should be trading out what is likely a Top 5 draft pick in a draft that we have wanted to trade into and may still do so when it comes to the 2026 trade period.

Regarding Tasmania, early word is they are struggling to get interest from players in the market. I am sure that the appeal of playing in front of big crowds at the G, for a club that a lot of young kids are super keen to get drafted to, given the sheer quantity of top talent we've drafted in the last 2 off seasons, will hold us in good stead when it comes to landing good players. Yes, Tasmania will have a war chest, but so will we and we should be pushing for finals much quicker than an expansion team as well.

When the best two mids aren’t available to us and there’s a clear hole on our list it seems a no brainer if he has a good season. We are going to have to fix our midfield with a FA
agreed, if we have a chance to draft a nearly ready-to-go top tier young ruckman, do it. develop him alongside the young mids. do a nank-esque trade and get a capable oppo ruckman in to help out. The new ruck rules are going to make hitouts a lot more predictable for mids and much easier for ruckmen with actual talent to put the ball in their path. a ruck renaissance on the cards.

Yeah agree Prestia and Lynch are cooked on field so you'd lock them in.

Broad has already announced he's retiring at the end of this contract hasn't he? So ideally Vlastuin is the one you get an additional year out of but it would be up to him as he might've had enough. All 4 retiring next year seems very realistic.
Can't see Floss retiring unless it's injury related. Broad could keep playing on in 2027, but at that point he's just taking games from our kids. As cooked as Lynch is, I wonder if we'll try and hold for 1 more year. It'd be a huge void of inexperience for our forwards.

Well hopefully Richmond saw how stupid it was of E-Girls to not bid on Uwland and Patterson 1&2, they weren’t able to get Addinsal. Just shows you get these bids out of the way.
They didnt even need to bid at 1 and 2. Couldve kept Duursma at 1 and bid at 2 and 3. Wouldve wiped the points just as easily.

Think they'll be ok once Butters goes FA.
Theyll match the FA offer depending on where they finish, and where the new club finishes. It's all about points. My guess would be that Port match the offer and ask for 2026 and 2027 first rounders.

Pay for Dougie with Ports own 2026 + acquired one. Bank more points for their 3 F/S and Acadeny players in 2027.

Favorites are the Doggies so lets say if they match Dogs offer their pick 9ish plus a F1(Tassie draft).Hmmmmmmmm interesting what Port do.
