17-year-old Talent
The ability to pre-list players in their 17th year, spread across two years (year prior to the inaugural list build year = players eligible to play in TDFC entry year in AFL competition, and year of inaugural list build year = players eligible to play in TDFC second year in AFL competition).

17-year-old Mini-Draft
The provision of two (2) draft selections for two (2) Mini-Drafts of 17-year-old players (i.e, four selections in total – two each in years immediately prior to TDFC entry year and TDFC entry year), with the requirement for those picks to be traded. Players selected in the mini draft will not be eligible for AFL selection in the year immediately following the relevant mini draft.

Love to get our hands on the two mini draft selections. What would we likely have to give up?

Depends on who the ruck is. A Darcy or Gawn type would be juicy. But yes too much risk.

If you do nail the 1/10 strike rate then by god you anchor your team. I would rather we get a monster key back or another A grade mid.

Was just reading some of Jaeger O'meara was acquired with pick 4 and a mid first round pick by gold coast and Brad Crouch was acquired by the crows for pick 10 and the phil Davis compo pick.
If its the 2 picks you want, probably looking at 4 firsts (2 early and 2 later?- would think if we get a compo pick for one of our players if Tasmania takes one that will be one of them.

I'd be more interested in trading our 2027 first for Essendon's 2026 first. They get more points for Bewick who is highly rated for the 27 draft, and we get another top pick before Tassie come in.

Worth considering, However, the new draft matching rules won’t stop a bid being matched. So Essendon will not trade out their 2026 first pick.

Probably depends how delusional essendon are. Maybe they think they'll be finals bound in 2027. Also Blake Justice looks like he could be a top 10 for them in the 2026 draft so they may find it challenging to get enough picks in both yrs 2026 2027 irrespective of if they remove the deficit.

The supposed new rule where you must use your top two picks will be made useless as they will by all reports allow the matching club to go into deficit also.

There's been plenty of buzz around Lewis Houndsome this year, a big lump of a lad near 200cm tall who moves really well, plays with a physical edge, and can take a grab at a point that few defenders can reach. Lewis hasn't managed to truly dominate a game this year or kick a big bag of goals. Draft watchers and recruiters will be looking to see him impose himself on games more consistently in 2026.

The ruck/forward combo of Houndsome and Van Hattum shapes as an exciting watch next year for the Northern Knights.
