With the season ending thought it would be good to post contract status updates as they come up. List above is as far as I know so may contain errors. Will adjust once contract status is confirmed.

Beruldsen delisted?

Hosking announced her re-signing herself, nothing from the club.

Thanks for that. Is that a typical Club list landscape - 25 of 32 players with current year expirations? It seems a little extraordinary and somewhat risky to me. Do other Club lists look like this?

I think it’s reasonably typical in AFLW space. Multi year contracts only came in with the last CBA in late 2023 so they’ve only pretty much been offered from 2024 onwards, mainly reserved for the guns of the comp or to sway a player to swap clubs given the restrictions on $$. I think most clubs want to maintain reasonable about of flexibility. Expect more of it moving forward.

And still people complain on here about losing Sheerin - with a list contract profile like that, we'll have around 80% of our list available at the end of every season.....

Tassie preparing to enter AFLW competition in 2028

Tasmania CEO Brendan Gale has indicated when he expects the Devils to enter the AFLW competition

Interesting times ahead.

As much as Tassie is a lovely place, not sure there is substantial appeal for a player in their prime moving to Tassie on AFLW coin. They'd have to consider FIFO.

Considering Tassie is a weaker state in terms of talent running around in the AFLW, similar to NSW they will have to rely on a big influx of talent from the big four footy states. I'd say the AFLW will bend over backwards to get them up and running in the new CBA that will come in just in time for their 2028 entry into the comp. One possibility could be an increase in non first year player relocation allowances (currently $6,000 less than that of a first year draftee who gets @ $16,000) to at least double to match that of the international players of $ 20,000 support.

The big one though to help the FIFO will probably come in the flagged new salary cap system in the new CBA in the form of special conditions, ie in additional services agreements for the top line talent with possible travel support benefits.

We are hearing that the introduction of a salary cap is very likely to happen not just to help Tassie entry but also to help to lessen the parity gap of the non dominant clubs to the the 4-5 clubs that permanently live at the top of the table.
