Nah Wawrinka had the talent at his peak to win Grand Slams. Him in full flight was a thing of beauty. If anything he couldn't produce against the top guys often enough because he had supreme power off both wings.

I remember going for Stan in that Australian Open final, his one handed backhand was a thing of beauty. He was in the form of his life beating Nadal and the Joker in the same Grand Slam.

Carlos has that big kid vibe, just soaking it up and enjoying the moments. I noticed on his way to and out of the Ch9 interview, he thanked and acknowledged a lot of people, security, ushers, media personnel.

Reminded me of that saying about judging someone's character by how they treat the staff.

Always been like that, remembers names of staff from years before. Very gracious.

Compare that to someone like Jim Courier - his Melbourne Park success got to his head. He was a bit of an arseh*le when he was going for the threepeat.

Medvedev had a great backhand, good serve & moved well not as good as Alex but he lost the plot mentally
and has never been the same since.

Someone will eventually come along within the next 5-6 years imo with a similar skill set possibly to Jannik & Carlos.

I won't be surprised if Djokovic fans soon start supporting Sinner & stop calling him a doper once they realize Alcaraz can actually break a lot of Novak's records, it's not out of the question he has youth on his side at 22 and has career slam & 7 majors.

Right now yep, it looks like a period where these two will be looking at it like "well make the most of it" so to speak. We need to wait for your Foncesa types to come on. Maybe Musetti can be this period's Murray/Wawrinka who jags a couple in the process, I'd be looking at the French there especially. I know Carlos is great there but so is Musetti on a clay court.

The next group of players look very good but they are a few years off.

Don't get your hopes up unless he sends Hewitt away from his side. I'd honestly be shocked if he's better than a quarter. Will need someone to take out the 'top 4' player he's drawn against. Who in the top 5 would he beat? That's your quarterfinal match. He aint beating the top 2, he aint beating Zverev, he won't beat Musetti now. Novak possibly with age but I wouldn't be betting on it. Then you have guys like Shelton or Foncesca even a Fritz type.

ADM does one thing I really appreciate and that's not play poor tournaments, which helps with your ranking etc. The negative though is his stye isn't going to contend, yeah you can get a fluke draw, but it's highly unlikely these days in a slam with yoour top 5 breezing through to the quarters.

I'm surprised everyone has forgotten about Learner Tien so quickly, he can improve his serve, add a little more to his game, he can in the next 2-3 years make some good inroads. I think he has a good coach too.

Agree, he's in that next lot with the Fonesca types. They probably realistically will need two more hardened seasons to be able to contend though. Theres a few Americans coming through actually. The one that would have beaten Sinner before the heat rule is another that looks good.

There has been a lot of players that have won majors & had much worse games then Zverev. The issue has always been the big moments, important points. No doubt Djokovic would have been big favorite to win had he got past Alcaraz.

Yep I agree. Look Zverev isn’t awful but he’s prone to flopping in big moments. I’m not saying it’s easy but Novak would have fancied his chance if that was the final. Really not surprised on either of the winners. The two with the best form won basically

I was at his 2013 4th round match vs Novak which while he narrowly lost he proved he could match it with the best.
Watched it back years later and its still the highest quality match I've seen, with the best final point of all time

Yeah the US have stacks coming through, I mean they should it's embarrassing for how many million people they have how many in the top 20 in men? Womens they have a few but in general it is a poor return

Sinner is the only one stopping Carlos running the table.

Purely for me, i'd love Carlos to win the next two and go to the US with the calendar slam on the line against a likley sinner in the final! That could be a match for the ages

Sad to see the open go. Got spoilt having all that tennis on. Good semis and the final was OK. Alcaraz took over after the first set. The women's final was pretty good.
