2026 Brownlow Medal

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Just another example of the twisted logic required to support the narrative Player A has been better than Player B over 3 seasons, despite Player A having received 15% fewer Coaches votes, 35% fewer Brownlow votes, and having played fewer finals with inferior performances in those finals.
Bontempelli has twice as many League MVPs, twice as many BnFs, highly rated leadership credentials, much better scoring metrics AND defensive/contested statistics, a vastly superior Player Rating ranking and consensus neutral opinion as the stronger midfielder over the past 3 years. You are the only person who takes n = 1 final as a serious data point.

Tantrum coming in 3, 2, 1...

Whoops.

Someone forgot to mention the infinitely greater number of Coaches Awards Daicos has compared to Bont over the last 3 years.

And the three times as many podium finishes in the Brownlow Daicos has compared to Bont over the last 3 years.

And the infinitely greater number of premierships Daicos has influenced over the past 3 years compared to Bont.

Or the fact we're now seeing Daicos rated higher than Bont in a majority of the Top X Player lists that are being released for the 2026 season.

Must be an honest oversight, because a genuine poster wouldn't exclude data simply because it doesn't suit their narrative...

Who are we talking about? Nick Daicos? Oh good. Makes a change from the other threads

I have to commend you at not cringing when you type up these deranged stories.

Well it is the 2026 Brownlow Medal thread, and he is half the odds of the player considered next most likely to win the Medal, he is the only player to have finished on the podium on multiple occasions in the last 3 years (and he's done it in all 3 years), and he's been the Brownlow favourite for 95% of the time since round 3, 2023.

Who should we be talking about? Players like Ned Long or Cam McKenzie?

We're not the ones coming up with sheer crap like "But the Dogs have been the far better team by winning games by bigger margins and losing games by narrower margins" and "Bont has been a better captain and therefore a better player" 😆 and "Daicos gets more votes because he plays in a worse midfield in a more successful team (but the Dogs have been far better)"...

Haven't seen this much barbed wire since WWI

You forgot the one about all of Bont's BOG's being in the best 50 BOG games through the season, and Daicos' BOG's being in the worst 50 BOG games across the season...

The real question now is not can Daicos win the Brownlow, but how much does he have to win by to be seen as a legitimate winner 😆 given all these advantages of playing in a great side with no stars and a terrible midfield, or something

Nobody needs to come up with anything to justify why Bont is a better player than Daicos. You look at their stats across any given season and you see that the head-to-head comparison is not there yet. Bont is just too good for the moment, and has more runs on the board.

****ing hate agreeing with you

Better tell that to the umpires, coaches, players and media reps.

Because they generally disagree with you.

I mean, when a poster has to resort to saying 'Bont's BOG games are amongst the top 50 BOG games across a season, and Daicos's BOG games are amongst the bottom 50', then you know you're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Nobody needs to go searching for anything. Bont simply kicks more goals, sets up more goals, kicks better, handballs better, takes more marks, tackles more, wins more clearances.

You’d have to be Peter Daicos to select Nick ahead of him.

As I've said, you're welcome to your opinion.

But the umpires, coaches, players and media personalities disagree with you.

Umpires, coaches, players and media reps will tell you that the quality of the 214 BOG games are not the same, but a voting system is imposed upon them to treat it that way.

Players who get to vote for players generally rather than a game-by-game voting system voted for Bont in 23 and 24 (the AFLPA MVP), and presumably only didn't vote for Bont last year because he was injured and missed five games to start the year, where Daicos was the more valuable player for his team in the best ability is availability sense. But Bont's injury to start 2025 has virtually relevancy in terms of how good we expect the players to be right now, for the coming games and season.

But Bont was the better per-game player in 2025, and clearly carried better form in the back end of the year (Bont's last 5 H&A games were 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, Brownlow votes, while Daicos was good - but not outstanding in a literal best-player-in-the-league sense against Hawthorn and Brisbane late last year, when he got 0 coaches votes in those games).

And you think Daicos' injury late in 2023 may have cost him an individual award or three?
