Is it in the Swans Academy zone? Yes
I'm just telling you the geography. Its nowhere near the central coast.
I've got lots of friends from up that way. Sawtell to Woolgoolga.
They are very much more aligned to Queensland and Brisbane than Sydney.

I know its in the "territory". However that doesn't mean the "go-home" factor is present.
Sydney is a world away for people up there.

The GWS academy is similar. There are areas there near the Border with Vicco that have more alignment to Victoria.

Pridham and Mark Evans (Gold Coast) have their say on the mooted changes.

I particularly liked the comments from Evans around the compromised draft being just one of 27 equalisation streams that were being looked at, and questioning why the AFL would make changes in one before considering the impact the other factors have on the level playing field.

Angus was born and raised a Richmond fan, he was never keen on joining the Swans no matter where he lived. Been years since I spoke to him last but as far as I recall, I couldn't imagine there will ever be a come home factor for him.

Can someone do the maths for me?

Assume current ladder is how we finish - swans have how many points?

We can match McCartney if he slips to what pick?

EDIT: we have pick 27 and 44 so ~700points probably.

Basically after academy discount and top team tax it’s pick 20 ish….

Sawtell is more Brisbane than Sydney.
Its on the Coffs Coast.
Sawtell is on the mid-north coast. The footy ground there is known as the Graveyard.. fyi, its rectangle in shape and has never had a Sherrin on it. You have to drive a very very long way before you get to the nearest ground set up for Aussie rules - Coffs, then Grafton, then Ballina.
To label anyone from the mid-north coast as Brisbane like, is extremely offensive. We are NOTHING like Brisbane, but to be fair.. we are nothing like Sydney either

Absolute credit and respect needs to be given to the Swans Academy for developing a player from this region. Like I said, The Graveyard has never seen a Sherrin

It's 10kms from Sawtell to Coffs.
It ain't that far.

My comment were more league and surf related.
I've seen friends and kids of friends gravitate towards Queensland far more than gravitate towards Sydney.

Even logistics wise Coffs is out of Brisbane more often than not .

Yep.. but my young fella cant play aussie rules as neither myself nor his mum are willing to drive up to 2.5 hrs each way to play a game on a Sunday morning (not saturday - thats for league, union and soccer). Its an Auusie Rules desert.
I really just wanted to make the point that the Academy did very well to develop a player from that region.

Im about 2 hrs north of Coffs and 2.5 hrs south of Brissy. The Surf is best from Ballina and south - Goldy's too crowded and Brissy is not on the coast. The only time Ive been to Brisbane in the last two years was to watch the Swans play at the Gabba, and to catch a plane last Jan.

Magpies might make a play for Lachie Neale. Oof. imagine him and Daicos in the same team.

Been reported by Sam McClure( so grain of salt but he is a Carlton supporter) that Hewett was not told the reason he was dropped after asking why he was.

Loved George at the Swans and has become a better player since, I imagine he must be on the outer at the Blues and while I understand we may not need him I wouldn't mind giving him a chance to comeback. Not sure what he's on but Adams contract is off the books at years end.

Will have other clubs seeking him out I assume.

Imagine not being told by your coach what you need to improve on to get back into the side.

You know what? I think they have a solid argument.

The vast majority of WA talent comes through the PSA (private schools) program.

There’s a massive untapped talent pool in WA. They’re making a similar argument to the northern academies.

The northern state’s monopoly on academies has an expiry date.

Isn't that true of Vic Metro as well?
