I mean… not that much better he has a history that didn’t start on Sunday…
Yeah. There wasn't anything particularly untoward about the fact he was concussed from Sunday's collision. I reckon the majority of players would have been concussed after an opponent's knee collided with their head at speed (however accidentally).

The concern is the cumulative effect of this with prior concussions.

On the positive side he didn’t fail HIA, he’s just on a super strict if he hits head he is out medical rule.

So severity of symptoms is totally unknown

IT WAS BEFORE THIS weekend
I know that, its just when you get to the point with him its almost a guarantee that he is getting concussed once a season if not twice.

The risk at only 26 years old is that having had something like 7 or 8 confirmed concussions that the next one is a medical retirement.

Doing it in blocks of 4 and 2 rather than just 6 saves a lot of the downside risk for the club

Gold Coast now offering Jed Walter 5 x $1 million to stay (offer was 2 x $750k), now it sounds like Ben King might head back to Melbourne now after all.

Im shocked they have put forward a 6 year contract given his concussions, he is a great player but I think offering him a 4 year extension and then giving him another shot to earn another extension at 31/32 years old seems smarter

I can’t quite fathom how or why the club would offer more than 2 years. There is (unfortunately) a very real risk that any game could be his last due to concussion.

I admit I don’t know the rules around medical retirements - but I hope this isn’t a case of blind optimism bias by the club.

As if our draft hand wasn’t already putrid this year, Carlton winning a few games stinks it up even more.

If we want to participate in this year’s draft in any meaningful way, Armatey needs to be traded.

And he will be.
My understanding is that we don't hold any 2026 Carlton draft picks. The second round picks we got back from them were for 2025 and 2027. So where they finish this season doesn't have a direct effect.*

* A higher finish this year gets them a tougher draw for next year (at least in theory) so maybe is better for the expected value of the 2027 future second that we hold.

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing. It's been a fair while now since we heard that we'd tabled an offer and he wanted to stay and then the rumblings about a much bigger monetary offer, so I'm thinking you're right.
I've also done a 180% in my thoughts on it, I'm not so fussed now. He form has dropped of quite markedly.

This is the problem. The second a player starts thinking about a big pay day, he instantly puts himself into trade territory no matter how much he wants to stay. I have no doubt if he was happy to take a fair return in order to stay the deal would be done by now and a fair deal is about $750k

Just keep in mind that Amartey is a free agent, if he leaves, he will not be traded, but we will get compensation. Mclean can be traded

One potato two potato three potato four, when walking out make sure their arses are hit hard by the door.

No way do you pay Amartey more than 750K.
Take that last kick for goal after the siren for evidence. No pressure as the game was won, but it would have made it a win without questions about umpire decisions.
Heeney would have kicked that.
He is the only player worth$1.2M plus. He’s earned it & is still earning it. Amartey has spent most of his career in rehab.
Doesn’t deserve it at our club.
We did that with Reid.
Save our funds for the up & coming guns like Serong & Kyle.
These boys are seriously good & exciting & can deal with pressure.

It could well be 2 years at a time with very reasonable triggers for another 2 at a time up to 6 years. Or at least that's how it should be done.

Agree on principle except i think 1mil is the new 750k and Heeney will easily clear 1.2 a season with a contract 1.5mil + a year not unreasonable.

Yep is Heeney in the top 50 players, because the top 50 players make 1m a year, Reckon the top 20 are making 1.2m

While you are right that $1m is the new $750k, if 2-3 years ago he were at the same point he is now, we would be saying $750 is crazy money. The point is, he's just not worth the money being suggested.

I like him and I hope he stays for reasonable money, but we should absolutely not over pay. Send him on his way if he wants a big pay day and bring in McCartney. Plonk McLean at FF with Charlie and Logan roaming and develop Aiden. Spend the money elsewhere like an actually ball winning mid. If we're gonna waste $1m+ on one player, throw it at Neal and see if he bites.

Rubbish he's a star , not like his dud twin
Where did I say he wasn't a star? But they have recruited a shit load of over paid players that can't all fit in the team for the next 6 years.
This has been their policy under this president & Ross & it can't work.
His twin is just injury prone so a bit harsh to call him a dud.
