Fixture 2026 Fixture Discussion

What I want
  • Gold Coast in Ballarat
  • 4 games at the MCG against either Collingwood, Melbourne, Richmond, Carlton, Hawthorn or Essendon
  • Geelong on a Friday night at Marvel

What I don't want
  • Collingwood hosting us at Marvel
  • Multiple games in Geelong, Canberra, Darwin, Launceston
  • 3 trips to Adelaide

We need to be realistic with our fixture requests.

Let's ask for an annual marquee fixture against St.Kilda for a Tuesday morning in June at about 9.15. We can play the game in Casey and we should probably rotate with North Melbourne every third year so they don't feel left out.

We can play for the 'fixture bitch' cup.

Dug up an old post from 2023, and updated it.

Since the 2010 AFL Season. Our double ups have been....
Also including the season that we last double upped against said team.

Nine Times
North (2025)

Seven Times
Geelong (2024)
Melbourne (2024)

Six Times
West Coast (2021)
Fremantle (2025)
GWS (2025)
Sydney (2024)
Brisbane (2025)

Four Times
Port Adelaide (2023)
Hawthorn (2023)
Essendon (2025)
St. Kilda (2025)

Three Times
Collingwood (2019)
Gold Coast (2021)
Richmond (2023)

Two Times
Adelaide (2013)
Carlton (2019)

We have doubled up vs the Giants and Fremantle for the past three seasons in a row. So hopefully none of either team this time around.

I would like to see us get Suns and Crows in Ballarat.
Overdue for Adelaide, Collingwood, Blues twice. Actually would not mind those as some of our double ups.
Would like to see us play Port at Marvel, feels like we rarely do. Cats home but not away, and a third game at the G.
Less Thursdays, more Saturdays.

Thought I'd shart a thread about the 2026 fixture!

We're in the middle 6, so grouped with Freo, GWS, Swans, Blues, Saints. We'll play at least three of these twice. Not great from a commercial perspective, these clubs.

We are owed a win in Adelaide for Gather Round - hope they put us at Barossa Valley against the Eagles or something. We've been shafted playing Port, Cats, Lions the last three years.

And SURELY we get a home game against Sniff and the GF runner ups this time, surely .....

Would love to see a home MCG game against either Coll or Haw, and keep the Easter Sunday twilight game.

Not sure if this image is still correct. Hoping we get a balanced 2-2-2 personally.

Given we got a such a big crowd against the Crows at Marvel we won't play them in Ballarat for a while. Suns at Ballarat and either the Eagles/Giants.

Yes please to Carlton and St.Kilda as double ups.

Didn't think of that. Then again I doubt much of the crowd were Crows fans anyway. Our base just decided to rock up vs an interstate team for once.

I actually would like to see us play the WA teams in Ballarat. But given the extra travel involved, the AFL probably wouldn't let it happen.

Guarantees

  • Geelong in Geelong
  • Gather Round against reigning premier
  • Play Carlton only once
  • Last game of year against Freo or GWS
We already played Brisbane last year in Gather Round so I doubt we'll play them again.

Have any two teams played each other twice in Gather Round?

No they haven't, but no other team has played the reigning premier two years in a row at Gather Round

They send them to Tassie….thats worse than a 1hr bus trip from Tullamarine. It takes that long to catch the bus to Pork Barrell park

I will vomit if we play Geelong down in Geelong....
do not understand why our fans hate it so much, better stadium than marvel and speaking recently our form there is decent, we should have won the 2025 game

Better than Marvel, wow. I think it’s a hole.
Good seats all taken by Cat’s members. Away team supporters squeezed into a small section in a pocket.
The shape of the ground gives them a massive advantage that no other team enjoys.
However the real issue is it’s always left to us, North, Saints and Melbourne to bear the burden of playing there almost every year. The “big” Victorian teams never have to make the trip down there. Sounds childish to say, but it’s just not fair.

Only good thing about the Cattery is a lot of pubs close by. $60 for shitty general admin seats is a joke considering the place is never close to being full.

Not remotely close to being better than Marvel Stadium. Way too long, about 10metres longer than the MCG and Marvel, so if you’re behind the goals good luck seeing much from the other end. And the shape makes for weird football. I worked on it for 2 years I should be proud of it, but I can’t help thinking they wasted their money on a crap shaped ground.
I like Marvel a lot but I know they stuffed up the roof. Modern indoor stadiums have translucent roofs. Marvel is essentially the same as Perth Stadium and that feels way better because it has a better roof.

Re WA teams in Ballarat, often wonder why myself. Am sure the WA teams have said no thanks due to the "extra" travel, but it's only 30km further from the airport to Ballarat than Geelong. Not like it's an hour or more longer. Given they'd travel on the Ballarat bypass to Mars but travel right through the northern Geelong suburbs to GMHBA, travel time would be similar.

Same for Sydney. But I think they have too much a decent Melbourne base, so maybe that is why. Would like to see us play Freo and Sydney there. It Is always Suns, Port, GWS. With aside of Lions and Crows.

In an ideal world, our double ups next year would be:

Pies
Giants
Suns
Blues
Saints
Bombers
Roos

We could bank 8 wins against our bunnies the Giants, Saints, Bombers and Roos.

Realistically, due to needing to play interstate, we’ll probably get Swans from the middle 6 and Port/Eagles from the bottom 6.
