We actually smashed our record for Victorian attendance by 47k last year which was set in 2009 over 7 games, this year we did it 8n 6 games.

Our gane against Collingwood broke the record for biggest home and away attendance for an interstate team at the G.
I found that interesting, so I dug a little deeper and compiled a list of each interstate clubs biggest home & away attendance.

Brisbane - 82,326 vs Collingwood - M.C.G
Sydney - 78,933 vs Collingwood - M.C.G
Adelaide - 67,697 vs Collingwood - M.C.G
Port Adelaide - 65,834 vs Collingwood - M.C.G
West Coast - 62,957 vs Collingwood - M.C.G
Fremantle - 62,198 vs Collingwood - M.C.G
GWS Giants - 54,985 vs West Coast - Optus Stadium
Gold Coast - 51,174 vs West Coast - Optus Stadium

I say that the Lions and Swans are the only interstate teams that can pull a crowd of 80k plus for a home abd away gane on Melbourne. To do that you need a significant support for both teams and the Lions and Swans are the only 2 interstate teams that have a big enough Vic Supporter base

Probably has something to do with both having history in the VFL - Sydney (South Melbourne) and Brisbane (Fitzroy).

Some feedback on this fixture: Where’s everyone getting this Crows v Lions thing from. It’s been evident from the 3 gather rounds so far that the SA teams have played VIC clubs. I see that trend continuing.

Brisbane definitely deserve an Adelaide Oval game, I just don’t see it being against an SA team. Expect Port Adelaide to get a bigger ViC club, the Crows don’t need a big opponent to draw a good crowd.

West Coast and Fremantle have rotated games at Adelaide Oval. This would Fred’s turn, expect an opponent worthy of Adelaide Oval.

Sydney v Geelong, Hawthorn v Bulldogs and Carlton vs St Kilda are good match ups. The Saints may be used against an SA club, possibly the Crows.
Port Freo 100% works

Either you're wrong, or I imagined watching a game between the two clubs on 16th July, 2017.

Also, in the 9 home games Richmond has hosted the Suns, we've played at Marvel 3 times. Barely "always"...

Maybe instead of trying to "correct" me with your incredibly inaccurate knowledge of AFL, you can spend 5 minutes reading articles about how Richmond has been negotiating for months to "sell" our Marvel home game over the next few years to make extra money for the Punt Road development while we're rebuilding.

The first attempt was trying to sell a Richmond Home game to play GWS @ the SCG, with the Tasmanian government funding for matches in Hobart being the second choice.

Richmond's game in Tasmania is to replace the Marvel game.
Well it’s been once in 15 years so Hardly never it’s been that long I forgot 8 years ago but yes still hardly ever

Well it’s been once in 15 years so Hardly never it’s been that long I forgot 8 years ago but yes still hardly ever

But it's not NEVER which is what you claimed after questioning my statement about the Richmond/Brisbane Tasmania game being a replacement for the Tiges Marvel game-- despite it being mentioned repeatedly in the media that Richmond was planning on selling the Marvel game.

Imagine trying to correct someone providing facts in the same post as making inaccurate claims.

So once in 15 years makes sense to be the game moved when you would draw a crowd of 50k at Marvel

What a Sunday it's been.

Big Brother 2025 has started, there's been both AFLW & WBBL on TV and I've been "champed" by someone who believes the Lions & Tigers have never played at Marvel.

Sorry lads if this clogs up the feed, it’s a really long post, but I did my best job to make a full fixture for next year. It was a lot of work and I know it’s far from perfect, but thought I’d share to see what everyone thinks.

Notes:
  • Season Starts with NSW/QLD matches as with previous years, however a full round is played rather than just four matches. I realise now that round 1 isn’t very good with the game in Geelong and I made this before St Kilda requested to play Collingwood.
  • In round 2 every Victorian team plays in Victoria.
  • Every team has 2 bye rounds, one between rounds 9-12 and a split round in round 20.
  • In my version of this fixture, the split round would replace the pre-finals bye by giving teams a rest late in the year, however there is now a bye the week before the grand final instead.
  • Floating fixture for just the last 4 rounds after split round so teams know when their byes are.
  • Gave North Melbourne 2 home games in WA like last year, but could not line it up for 2 weeks in a row. However, North only play three other games interstate, so they won’t have extra travel compared to other teams.
  • There’s been speculation of Richmond hosting two home games in Hobart, so I’ve picked out two games that they could potentially host down there.
  • All teams play at least 2 games at the MCG.
  • Victorian teams play between 4 and 6 games interstate (not including gather round)
  • In the bye rounds from 9-12, all teams coming off a bye play each other the week after on Thursday or Friday night (except for the bottom 2 teams from the 2024 ladder)
  • There are still several issues with this fixture such as Hawthorn’s run of three interstate games from Rounds 21-23, Essendon’s run from rounds 4-7 and St Kilda’s run of away games from rounds 14-17, however it got to a point where trying to fix them created 2 more issues, and so on. So I think this is the best fixture I can make without spending hours and hours more on refining it and shuffling things around more. There could also still be some mistakes that I haven’t picked up on yet.

Round 0 has already been announced for these dates?

just on the Saints playing Collingwood twice in a season, it's happened twice in 20 years.................

2019R9 & R21Two regular-season meetings
2010R3 & R16Plus two finals (Qualifying Final & Grand Final + Replay) — they met four times total that year
2006R8 & R19Two H&A matches
2004R9 & R18Two H&A matches
2003R8 & R18Two H&A matches
2002R9 & R21Two H&A matches
2001R3 & R16Two H&A matches
Might be late to the party but none of 2002, 2003 and 2004 look right. Those were the days where your last seven games were generally opponents from your first seven.

From memory we had the Saints twice in 2002 (6 & 21) and just once the other two years?

Huge

I would give it two likes if I could, just for the idea that every team gets at least two games at the MCG

I really only looked at the Fremantle fixture, we'll take it thanks, it's pretty kind considering what we could cop. A couple of things that might not be 100% right

1. We will play North "away" in Bunbury this year - that game is already locked in
2. I doubt we would get two consecutive away games at the MCG in rounds 9 and 10 but I guess anything is possible

Fixture bingo time. How many of these will we see?

- Geelong will inevitably finish the year belting a bottom-four side at GMHBA as a safety net in case they have a poor season. Failing that they will have another away clash against Richmond like this year. Set your watch to it.

- If Essendon aren’t clogging prime time, Carlton will be there every Thursday and Friday like clockwork.

- There’ll be zero standalone interstate Friday nights because the AFL still thinks the sun rises over Jolimont.

- North to play on Sunday at 4:40 pm for eternity.

So Wildcard weekend is grabbing the AFL enough headlines for now that they don't need to announce anything else
Im just hanging out for the actual Round 1 fixture. Keen to see how hard our(Crows) opening game will be. no doubt it will be freo or GWS away

After reading the Herald Sun article the other day, I wouldn't be surprised if Essendon's only Thursday/Friday night games in the first 14-15 rounds (whatever they set in place, before the floating fixture) are Hawthorn in R1, and Richmond for Dreamtime. They could potentially get one on Good Friday night like they did last year v West Coast, but that doesn't really count. I'm personally hoping for mostly Saturday 4:15 and Sunday games. Because I'm not a school-aged kid, and don't have kids, having Sunday 4:40 games under the dome are great. Sunday 1:10 and Saturday 1:20 games no good for mine unless it's at the G (something about day games under the roof, when you can see the sun through the cracks, makes me feel yuck).

In answer to your bingo, I'm saying Geelong to play a 2025 bottom six team in one of the last two rounds. Limited prime time for Carlton, I'll guess four Thursday/Friday games in the first block of fixtures + Good Friday. There always is that one team that gets heaps of Ch7 matches, despite being middling the previous season. I'd guess St Kilda for next year, mainly because all the recruits will be a talking point even if they're bad (maybe even more so!). All St Kilda do is complain anyways, so they've probably been begging the AFL for prime time because they think they're so relevant now!

Can now double up with up to four teams in your range. Convenient rule change, no doubt made after the fixture was already made.
They definitely ran into a roadblock and the quick and easy solution for them was to change the rule. It's pretty cooked that you could already play three teams in your group, four is ridiculous. If they are so set on this they'd have to make it something like only 18th can play four bottom-six teams, and only the premier can play four top-six teams.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is a result of feedback from Ch7 and Fox, so they've had to change stuff and it's been too hard for them, and it could be too late to cook up a whole new schedule (I'm assuming this takes a long time for them). The article says the full fixture is coming on Thursday which is good. We'll probably be leaked enough of it to piece half together anyways!

Might be late to the party but none of 2002, 2003 and 2004 look right. Those were the days where your last seven games were generally opponents from your first seven.

From memory we had the Saints twice in 2002 (6 & 21) and just once the other two years?
last time I use ChatGPT for simple stuff

2001 rnd 9
2002 you are right, rnd 6 and 21
2003 rnd 9
2004 rnd 8
2005 rnd 6 & 17
2006 rnd 14
2007 rnd 14
2008 rnd 8 & 19
2009 rnd 7
2010 rnd 3 & 16
2011 rnd 11 & 21

2012 rnd 19
2013 rnd 6
2014 rnd 11

I see I was beaten to it

Regardless 5 out of 25 is wild

The AFL has announced a change to the weighted fixture rule ahead of the 2026 fixture releases.

The rule change will mean you can play up to 4 clubs from within your group. It’s expected 2 of the top 6 will get 4 double ups within that group.
