Fixture 2026 Fixture

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Can now double up with up to four teams in your range. Convenient rule change, no doubt made after the fixture was already made.
Also known as the "how can we nobble Brisbane this time" rule

Full fixture Thursday according to that article, so surely a couple of tasters over the next 24 hours

Sorry lads if this clogs up the feed, it’s a really long post, but I did my best job to make a full fixture for next year. It was a lot of work and I know it’s far from perfect, but thought I’d share to see what everyone thinks.

Notes:
  • Season Starts with NSW/QLD matches as with previous years, however a full round is played rather than just four matches. I realise now that round 1 isn’t very good with the game in Geelong and I made this before St Kilda requested to play Collingwood.
  • In round 2 every Victorian team plays in Victoria.
  • Every team has 2 bye rounds, one between rounds 9-12 and a split round in round 20.
  • In my version of this fixture, the split round would replace the pre-finals bye by giving teams a rest late in the year, however there is now a bye the week before the grand final instead.
  • Floating fixture for just the last 4 rounds after split round so teams know when their byes are.
  • Gave North Melbourne 2 home games in WA like last year, but could not line it up for 2 weeks in a row. However, North only play three other games interstate, so they won’t have extra travel compared to other teams.
  • There’s been speculation of Richmond hosting two home games in Hobart, so I’ve picked out two games that they could potentially host down there.
  • All teams play at least 2 games at the MCG.
  • Victorian teams play between 4 and 6 games interstate (not including gather round)
  • In the bye rounds from 9-12, all teams coming off a bye play each other the week after on Thursday or Friday night (except for the bottom 2 teams from the 2024 ladder)
  • There are still several issues with this fixture such as Hawthorn’s run of three interstate games from Rounds 21-23, Essendon’s run from rounds 4-7 and St Kilda’s run of away games from rounds 14-17, however it got to a point where trying to fix them created 2 more issues, and so on. So I think this is the best fixture I can make without spending hours and hours more on refining it and shuffling things around more. There could also still be some mistakes that I haven’t picked up on yet.

Great effort
just a few things from a St Kilda perspective

Sydney twice in 6 weeks
West Coast are due to travel to Melbourne, only 2 of the last 7 have been Saints home games
rnd 12 Carlton v St Kilda should be Friday night, swapping with Hawks v Freo Tasmania game, although I'd have this match in the first 5-6 rounds to draw all the bitter bloo's fans

I like alot of the timeslots, ripping job

Also known as the "how can we nobble Brisbane this time" rule
I don't necessarily disagree with that sentiment, but if any team should have this fixture it should be the premiers.

The AFL, although they neither preach or practice fairness, their ideal world would have every team win a premiership in every 18 year cycle. It's tough to win back-to-back, which is why everyone is praising Brisbane, just like they did in the 2000's, and just like people did with Hawthorn in the 2010's. Even Geelong and Richmond who didn't win consecutive premierships, but won multiple in a short time.

It's not great for Brisbane fans, because you want your team to win... But, I don't dislike the idea of the North Melbourne's of the world getting an easier draw, and the Brisbane's of the world having it really tough (in terms of their fixture).

In essence, I think the AFL wants the competition to be as even as possible, not as fair as possible. Because, due to reasons like clubs mismanaging football operations, and the inequality in the draft, if everyone had the same fixture there would still be a big gap between teams, probably more than there is now. And from a spectators viewpoint, it's obviously better if every game is close and the ladder is tight because it brings in the stakes. That's exactly why they bring in the wildcard.

I don't think it'll mean middling teams win premierships, the cream will rise to the top, but it means that teams aren't tied to the bottom of the ladder as much as they are now.

Feels like such a boing year for fixture leaks this season, surely theres usually more this close to the fixture coming out
They've been less abd less over the last few years.

Given the AFL had announced the wild card they don't need to leak cause everyone is talking about them anyway

You’ve got one Hawthorn MCG home game in the first 15 rounds (Easter Monday).

It's such a cooked league. That most people just accept doctoring a fixture to penalise some teams and promote others tells us how much it's been captured.
I heard again on radio today an interview with a talking head questioning why the AFL still enjoys the tax free charitable status that you get if you run a sporting competition, when in essence it is a business controlled by the TV and gambling industries, not a sporting competition at all.
It’s a reasonable point. Just tax the ****ers like you would the producers of reality TV

This current afl admin can’t even devise a fixture without changing the rules.

The fixture is so compromised that to maintain the compromise they have to do this.

No prizes for guessing which club in the top 6 will get the 4x matchups.

Richmond definitely won consecutive premierships…

Yes, you're right. I more meant from the perspective of them winning three in four, like Geelong won three in five, instead of how Brisbane and Hawthorn won three in a row. Richmond probably should've won four in a row, they were the best team in 2018 as well. Should've worded it better though, apologies!

Unlikely to be Geelong. More like to be us or Adelaide
Thing is - I wouldn't complain.
Teams always go up and go down.
I remember in 2024 we ended up getting double ups vs 3 of the top 4 despite being mid 6. Wasn't planned but teams rise.
Who the hell knows what's going to happen.

Use Geelong as an example - Didn't they have a hard 2025 fixture this time last year, then ended up getting a cakewalk?

Geelong had an extremely tough start of 2025 fixture
Nobody mentions this
Ground was also unavailable for a couple of games due to a movie being filmed there
Hence the extra home games towards the end of the season

Nobody mentions it because Geelong got Richmond twice as their Bottom 6 team, instead of Crows or Suns.
Nobody mentions it because Geelong got Essendon & St Kilda twice as their Middle 6 teams, instead of Pies and/or Dogs.

Nothing else needs to be said really. Those soft double-ups were comical for a Top 3 team that is already gifted 10 games at their training ground fortress AND only needed to jump on a plane 6 times :thumbsu:

It’s irrelevant who we get in the bottom 6 really. We should beat them all anyway. Plus I wish we didn’t cop Saints twice, getting top placed crows twice would’ve been better. Saints are our bogey team. Just like Lions and Giants, all of which we copped twice.

We went 7-5 in our double up games and 10-1 against teams we played once.
What does that tell you?
Change our fixture and we would’ve had even more wins.

No doubt with all the sooking done by those with no idea we will definitely be the team who gets 4 top 6 teams twice.

Although I don’t mind if that means we don’t get giants and saints twice.
Crows, hawks, pies twice - yes please. We didn’t lose to any of them this year and played none of them at home.
We know we get suns away now, may aswell hope we get them twice. As a cat fan I’m quite happy to play the whole top 6 twice.

We copped the max of 3 top 6 sides twice in 2025 and played all the top 6 away.
The whinging from people like you is hilarious.

I would give it two likes if I could, just for the idea that every team gets at least two games at the MCG

I really only looked at the Fremantle fixture, we'll take it thanks, it's pretty kind considering what we could cop. A couple of things that might not be 100% right

1. We will play North "away" in Bunbury this year - that game is already locked in
2. I doubt we would get two consecutive away games at the MCG in rounds 9 and 10 but I guess anything is possible
Cheers for the feedback. I wasn’t sure what North’s WA deal was exactly!
I doubt the back to back MCG games too, but the AFL have done stranger things (like having a 5 game opening round 😂)

Use Geelong as an example - Didn't they have a hard 2025 fixture this time last year, then ended up getting a cakewalk?

This time last year, Geelong had either the 5th hardest draw based on finishing position (in 2024) or 11th hardest draw based on percentage (in 2024).

Like the other prelim finalists, they played 3x against the top 6, but the two middle 6 teams they played were the two lowest ranked (based on 2024), and the bottom 6 team they played was the lowest ranked.

So they were given the maximum 3 against top 6 teams, but counterbalanced by having the easiest possible two middle 6 and one bottom 6 team.

I like alot of the timeslots, ripping job
yeah Sydney twice in six weeks is an issue.
Trying to fix teams having big blocks of home/away games was one of the hardest things to get right when making the fixture, so I’ll admit that it’s definitely not equal!
Thanks for giving the fixture a look!

True! I didn’t realise this. Probably best to swap the hawks vs Sydney game to the MCG and change a different game down to Tassie. Although hawks have a very good mid-season run at the G!
