Yeah those Friday double ups really feel like they're there to give the illusion of certain teams getting more Friday night games without any of the benefits of the national syndication for the respective clubs. Basically so Victorian fans and AFL officials have a context removed strawman to point at for all equalisation and fairness based discussions.

Or, maybe I'm being a bit too cynical?
People love attending Friday night games, it’s a cheap night out and no one goes to pubs and nightclubs anymore. The average football follower has no idea what is and isn’t a nationally televised game.

The future prime television slot is 4.30 Saturday, Freo needs to start leveraging that. The old Subi night games used to go off but I feel like day games always had a better atmosphere at Optus.

Mrs and I are thinking of maybe heading down to Perth sometime this year for a cheeky holiday with the little one.

Hypothetically, how difficult would it be for a non freo member to get tickets to the Freo home derby?

On the subject of games and tickets- I’ll be in Geelong for work in round 1.
What area of the alphabet stadium should I be looking to buy a ticket in to sit with my Freo kin ?
And what Geelong pub should I be in before the game ??
All tips appreciated

Freo fans are normally at the South end.

Sawyers Arms is the pub you want

R1 I fear is going to be like when you get back in your car after a month travelling. It's your car, you've driven it for years, but yet it still takes a bit of time for muscle memory to click. Geelong will be hitting the ground running from the first minute after R0 and will do the same to us as last year, just probably not so bad. Then will get back on the optimism train after a week of JLo and Freddie bashing (cause it will be their fault) after a R2 win.

There are some pros and cons both ways. Agree Cats shaking off the rust is a big one.

But being able to scout them in a proper match, likely with our coaches at the game, could be a decisive one too if good enough.

On the flip side, they get a chance to review and adjust after a proper game.

Also Cats may pick up an injury or a suspension.

If Freo can be even at qtr time then it is game on, biggest danger is getting blown away early being rusty.

Toi be fair, they didn't actually get to play the R0 game last year, so our disaster that day was all our own doing.
It doesn't excuse the fact that it's a ****ing joke we've been scheduled this two years running when the whole thing is totally avoidable by having R0 teams play each other in R1

RO teams should just switch with each other. I wonder if Freo told the AFL they are campaigners for setting them up away from home against a side who gets a game of proper season intensity before playing us

Nothing equal about it

Or us missing opening round every year.

It is a 2 tier system.

We ask to play opening round, Collingwood ask to not travel to opening round.

Or us saying, "hey, we are still filthy about last years performance and want to go back and get it back!" This is the way im seeing it. And it makes me feel better about the whole situation.
