It's a slightly tougher fixture than last year but the last 5 or 6 games before finals are really friendly. The start is tough we just have to try and go at least 2-2 early. Will mean we need to be on in the practice games.

The last time I went to Princes Park (IKON) for a Geelong Carlton game was 2000. Carlton had never won a spoon, Geelong were an up and coming but perennially unsuccessful young side and I was a very young man.

A Carlton supporter called me a campaigner for no real reason, a pretty hostile environment.

Anyway, 25 years later and they've won 5 spoons and we've won four flags. If I only I could go back in time to that moment and tell him all about it.

Recon I might head along to this one, for old time's sake.

Hard to know how tough it is- Swans and Port missing the 8 this year was not predicted; there are always teams that surprise and disappoint. Playing Lions, GWS, Freo, Crows and GC seem to be the real tests, while Hawks, Dogs and Pies will also be there and abouts. Swans and Saints should improve. But in recent years, the CS saying of not WHO, but WHEN has been really relevant.

Speaking of hostile environments at Princes Park, the last game I went there was the last game of the 2001 season. Carlton were on their way to the finals. We were on our way to lose the last 5 games of the season. From being a finals chance, to no hope.

• we kicked 3 goals in the first quarter, and none after that.
• Brett Ratten badly injured his elbow and would miss the finals
• some other Carlton player (can't remember who) got injured.
• the infamous Milburn Silvagni incident. I thought there was going to be a riot (which also led to the Scarlett/Murphy confrontation at Mad Monday). Silvagni played in the finals but admitted after he didn't feel right.
• some Carlton supporters confronted Milburn after the game (I think "Barb" from the Footy show was one of them).
• and it poured rain on and off and was a general miserable day.
• oh, and it was Garry Hocking's last game..one that he would like to forget I'm sure. 7 possessions and we got thrashed.

Last time we played Carlton at ikon park was only a couple of years ago and Cam Guthrie reinjured himself in the 1st 7 seconds.
