Maybe they can progress to giving every team a participation award at the end of the season.

It was even spoken about on the news last night about how a wildcard for 9 & 10 will hopefully keep the fans of those teams from like 9th -> 12th engaged in the season for longer rather than thinking their team is out of it once they can't mathematically make the top 8
And then you add in that this is two extra games to be played, and if these are counted as finals it means it's the AFL that pockets the rewards rather than the home teams

Hutchy has been pushing Wild Card round for years, looks like he finally got his way. All about the money.
Hutchy will be now pushing for the game to go back to the 1898 to 1900 finals system, where all teams played finals.
Incidentally this was scrapped after 1900 season when Melbourne, who finished 6th out of the 8 teams won the finals to become premier.

Disagree, GC always start seasons well, you want them after round 10.
Though now that it seems they are decent finally it might not matter much, it will be a hard game any time of the year.

And how does this serve our members if they did? Last year, Geelong had over 92,000 club members (the 5th largest in the AFL); there are probably thousands more who have AFL memberships with Geelong as their designated club. Our Stadium, as good as it is, only holds around 40,000 at capacity. The MCG can give all members a chance to attend, plus it gives us valuable game time under finals pressure on the ground where the GF is played.
