Re the comments from before about Murph wanting to move numbers being disrespectful I dimly remember from the dark ages when I played I was extremely superstitious about my jumper number from the moment I chose it in primary school.

I felt wrong running out without it if I had to play combined side or whatever without it.

Maybe some players just have superstition about a number. Is that still a thing?

I remember Paul Medhurst wanting #6 when it became available after a few seasons in #34 because he had always worn that number. He then had a shit of a season, and IIRC moved back to #34 before he got traded to Collingwood.
Pretty sure Luke Ryan moved to #13 when it became available as it was his number right from juniors.
Don’t know if it’s superstition or just attachment for sentimental reasons.
Obviously I have no clue about young Murph and his desire for the #7, but in this case he’s been honoured with the #16, and I personally feel (others might think I’m being OTT ) that a player needs to be ‘invited’ to wear #7. I can’t see Fyfe inviting anyone to give up Mundy’s number in favour of his.
