We tried that with Simon Crawshay & 23. Didn't quite work.give MacKenzie the #5 and the responsibility to live up to it and be the real internal improvement in the midfield.
My guess is jumper presentations at family day.Any idea when jumper numbers will be announced? My daughter got a new jumper and wants a number on it, but is waiting to see where the numbers land for a few players.

Eh bit of an overreaction this.Numbers such as 3, 5, 19 and 23 are numbers worn by modern Hawthorn legends and some of this legends can get vocal if the number is worn by a player who does not meet the required on field capabities. This was highlighted when 23 was worn by Tim O'Brien some legends in Timmy's last 1 or 2 seasons were vocal that the number had to be given to another player. I did like James Worpel wearing number 5 however he showed limited leadership capabilities. Past number 5 players such as Peter Crimmins, Andy Collins, Sam Mitchell all showed leadership capabilities and ironically all of these players were blond. From our current list I believe that there are only 2 players that should be considered to wear the number 5 in 2026 and they are either James Sicily or Dylan Moore. If neither want the number then it should not be worn for the season. This was the case in 2023 when number 19 was not given to a player
No way mate... either get a perm or no 23 for you.Eh bit of an overreaction this.
Ward and Mackenzie for example would be well and truly deserving for say 5.
The fact is that they have the quality of talent and are highly regarded, but also the fact that as much as history of numbers is important. It’s just as important for new players to be given opportunities to rewrite history.
Both Ward and MacKenzie need 1 or 2 more years before a decision could be made on whether they are deserving. Remember, it was not too long ago that the Crimmins family were also consulted before any player wore this number, that is the importance of this number to the clubEh bit of an overreaction this.

Yeah I get that, I’m just saying personally it doesn’t matter as much, the value of history is high, but it’s just as important to let players revitalise history. Both Ward and MacKenzie need 1 or 2 more years before a decision could be made on whether they are deserving. The number 5 transcends football ability, character is the most important factor. Ward would be right at home in the number 5.Both Ward and MacKenzie need 1 or 2 more years before a decision could be made on whether they are deserving. Remember, it was not too long ago that the Crimmins family were also consulted before any player wore this number, that is the importance of this number to the club
