I don't like the idea of gatekeeping numbers, they're there to be used. They can still be a reward for effort and/or potential, but I don't think they should be reserved for star players only.

I really like the idea of giving Ward the number 5. It'd be a reward for his breakout season and, as such a confidence player, would show that we trust and back him in to take another step up.

Croc in 9 feels about right too.

Ward in #5 feels right, feel like Nairn might end up as #28. Moore could be #9, letting Dear move to #13, Mckenzie as #8, Cmac as #22.

Since number 5 was brought back. 4 out of the 5 players given it have left Hawthorn for other clubs.

There's a very dark joke in there - but even after 50 years I'm not really ready for it.

...

I think everything depends on #5 - with Dylan Moore the first to decide. I'm assuming he takes it.

I like the simplicity of draftees 35-40, rookies 41-44, and adding draftees in draft order.

1 Harry Morrison
2 Mitch Lewis
3 Jai Newcombe
4 Jarman Impey
5 NEW - Dylan Moore - From the outside, Dylan seems to best encapsulate everything HFC#5 stands for.
6 James Sicily
7 Ned Reeves
8 NEW - Connor MacDonald - Reward for performance, representing my expectation of him moving into the midfield.
9 NEW - Josh Ward - Our next best established onballer after Newk.
10 Karl Amon
11 Conor Nash
12 Will Day
13 NEW Calsher Dear takes his dad's old number - (Dylan Moore moved to 5).
14 Jack Scrimshaw
15 Blake Hardwick
16 Massimo D'Ambrosio
17 Lloyd Meek
18 Mabior Chol
19 Jack Gunston
20 Finn Maginness
21 Noah Mraz
22 NEW - Sam Butler - not sure why, I just like Butler in 22. He may stay in 30 and Watson takes 22.
23 Josh Weddle
24 Josh Battle
25 NEW - Max Ramsden (Josh Ward moved to 9)
26 Bodie Ryan
27 Will McCabe
28 Cam Mackenzie - kick up the butt for Cam.
29 NEW - Bailey MacDonald
30 NEW - Henry Hustwaite (Sam Butler moved to 22)
31 NEW - SSP/DFA Player (Connor Macdonald moved to 8)
32 Cody Anderson
33 Jack Ginnivan
34 Nick Watson
35 NEW - Cam Nairn (Calsher Dear moved to 13)
36 James Blanck
37 Tom Barrass
38 NEW - Aiden Shubert (Max Ramsden moved to 25)
39 NEW - Jack Dalton
40 NEW - Matthew LeRay
41 b Matt Hill
42 r NEW - Ollie Greaves- (Bailey Macdonald moved to 29)
43 b Jaime Uhr-Henry
44 NEW - unused - (Henry Hustwaite moved to 30)

Our last 3 number 5s have all moved to other clubs (including Mitchell 😏). Maybe we need to retired it
4 actually.

Harford went to carlton.

Don't think Watson will change numbers, he has a t-shirt with wizard hat and no. 34 on it.
I'm pretty sure neither Watto or Ginni are changing numbers. Based on he signed my little cousin's autograph book as "34eva!" not long ago. Also, he and Ginni are like brothers so they'd want to stay together.

If they both change to 8 and 9, they still can.

Watson requested 34 to be next to Ginni. It wouldn't surprise me if Cmac, Ginni, Watson and Dear all want to stay in the 30s their whole career in that rascal pack.
