And we're off! :) According to afl.com.au, we have one spot available. We haven't put Jesse Motlop on the list yet.

I must admit, I find this surprising, no matter who we end up selecting in the next couple of weeks.

Let’s hope we’re not banking a spot for the MSD. Add 2 in the SSP and cover our bases, EH & KPP
MSD will look after itself at the time (unfortunately).

If we don't need to act until closer to the deadline, then we are doing the right thing.

Unless putting him on IR gave us more train-on spots, then at this stage the candidates are fighting for 1 spot - no room for complacency.

If we get a mid season LTI then the MSD is sorted. If we don’t then we won’t bloody need another player. Although this is where our LM team does its best work.

If we have a fit list going into season I have no issue going in with a spot spare. No rush, get to see many players in games and as we have really added to our VFL side another player isn't a neccessity

I really like our list. Best balanced I have seen in a long while

Feel we need another genuine KPP and/or Ruck but it's a good mix of youth and experience with a lot of talent. Certainly better skilled than before.

A good coach and standards would get this list into Finals IMO
Any word on how Duffy is progressing as a KPD Soap? I've heard a few things about him looking pretty good

I'm thinking our main priiority should be a ruck who can mark around the ground unless Reidy has the goods.

Well I don't; not yet, at least. We need a fresh injection of star power to gloss over the mediocrity. This last off-season we lost a bit of the former and simply replaced it with the kind of depth we should have already had. We need to use the future picks we obtained as a springboard for bigger and better things, or we'll be chasing finals success half-cocked again, as we've been doing for over twenty years.

I don’t think Soap is saying we have a list that will win the premiership this year. He’s referring to balance, youth, quality coming through, direction etc.

I’m certainly not as pessimistic about our list either. I think the biggest missing piece is coaching and game style at the moment. Hopefully we make big strides in that over the next couple of seasons

We already have Motlop out for the season & O'Farrell for the major part before a game has been played, it makes little sense not to add Hollands and a young key position player, who knows what other injuries may arise once the season starts.

Yep. Thank you 🙏

Looks okay. Few give him wraps and has improved but I don't think he's ready yet. Monahan has improved a fair bit but behind a fair few others. JMO

Is the idea with Monahan a run with mid or more Half-back?

Think they are “growing” Monahan. Expect him to play multiple roles in the twos, somewhat depending on personnel. The run with role will probably become the go to. If he is to have an AFL career, he probably needs to bring a little something extra to the table. We have plenty of developing half backs, but a run with type blessed with his athleticism is a different scenario. Other than veterans, Lord and Ben Campo are the candidates are the candidates in that area and both have extractor first vibes and are probably not as quick.

I was at a function a couple of years ago where Diesel nominated Monahan as the fastest player on the list

To be honest Paf, the so called star power of Curnow has been waning over the last two seasons and last year he was fairly mediocre.

Disappointing that both he and Duffy have not come on as quickly as we would have hoped.

I guess when you look at our track record with Irish Recruits over the years - Sheehan, Byrne crueled by injury and O'hAilpins a bit erratic - we underestimate how good Tuohy was and in particular how quickly he came on - was that more luck, good management or the fact that Tuohy was just an extraordinary talent (I think he was) and at the end seriously undervalued.

Duffy has effectively had half a season, with ACL rehab and a very conservative introduction. We don’t have the Development League option anymore to my knowledge.

Monahan has been a slow build, but as much the club’s fault as his, trying to introduce him as a forward in a relatively dis functional group cost us the best part of a year. Rob pretty much has the skills, it is more about game awareness now. Yes, it would have been nice to have something definitive by now and grab another Cat B, but I am looking forward to what he can bring this season.
