There was some sort of vile fruit salad concoction called "Ambrosia," popular when I was a wee tot in the 70s... IIRC it was mostly chopped fruit (apples, some citrus, maybe some raisins) plus those sweet Maraschino cherries, shredded & sweetened coconut, and mayonnaise.

I liked every one of the ingredients, but added together it was truly puke-worthy.
