Can't really see that happening. He doesn't have much of a leg to stand on if he's refusing to provide adequate evidence for any exemption. And the courts are hardly going to start to depart from the strict interpretation of immigration laws that they've done for the past 25 odd years, especially with strong popular opinion in favour of it in this case.Novak will get in and play.
Commonwealth government just trying to appease the masses for the short term. Act tough but throw up their hands in disgust when the loophole from Novak's lawyer team is confirmed.
Then how is it that his medical exemption was approved in the first place? Just remember they were appointed by the state government. Minister Pulford herself said his exemption was accepted as sufficient by the review board. So how can they now turn around and say it’s no longer good enough? Can't really see that happening. Or is this just another example of vic government incompetence? Or just plain spite?
It’s not a good look for us internationally. Makes us look like a pack of incompetent fools.
My best guess is that because the Tennis Australia / State govt review was blinded as to the applicants identity and details it was able to pass through without suspicion of its authenticity. But as soon as it was a matter for the feds, the discrepancies must have been obvious. Maybe Djokovic hoped they'd turn a blind eye a second time so to speak. Either that or he refused to provide the evidence to the feds on the basis that providing false information could be a criminal offence, whereas he was not running such risk with the first exemption application? Then how is it that his medical exemption was approved in the first place? Here we go with the Vic Government bashing again...
The fact is that Tennis Australia and the Victorian Department of Health gave Djokovic a medical exemption to play in the Australian Open. It was the responsibility of the Federal Government to grant him the visa to enter the country. It has been proven by the Victorian Government that the Federal Government panicked and late last night were pleading with the Victorian state government to sponsor an exemption to his visa to allow him into the country - a request which they wisely requested to be put to them in writing so ScoMo couldn't deny making it which he no doubt would've done as he is a habitual liar, and a request which was duly denied, which led to the farcical scenes which resulted when Djokovic touched down last night.
I doubt that highlyNovak will get in and play.

My guess is he used the, had covid in the last 6 months clause in the medical exemptions list. Probably provided the test results that proved it. But it’s probably not hard for a man of his standing and financial might to get someone to arrange all that for him. Comical considering sissy boy dan andrews talked tough about no one getting a medical exemption. And then they go ahead and do it. But then again, he lies about everything, and when he gets exposed he suddenly doesn’t know anything and tells his ministers not to talk to investigators. Guy is an slimey pos.
This country is going nowhere with incompetent leaders both federally and at state level. They can’t do anything right.
Yeah I see it being reported now that he used the fact he contracted COVID in the past 6 months excuse. If that's the case he should have well known that it wouldn't work for entry to the country. My guess is he used the, had covid in the last 6 months clause in the medical exemptions list. From what i can gather from the news (so most likely false) is that the medical exemption was approved, yet for some insane reason medical exemptions aren’t valid for working visas? Sounds like one of those cases of government requirements being all over the place, with no straight forward process between fed and state level, and complete contradictions between them.
Dan actually said back in November that as far as he is concerned Djokovic wouldn't be welcome in Melbourne, and that was reiterated last night when they declined the Federal Government's request to sponsor Djokovic's visa exemption.
I agree with you about the incompetent leaders at a federal level though. If they were pulling their weight, it wouldn't be left to the State premiers to try and pick up the pieces. It staggers me just how slow ScoMo and co are to act on anything. First it was building proper quarantine, then procuring vaccines, and now it's sourcing and/or funding enough test kits. Of course, if they got the first two right, the third one wouldn't be as much of an issue as it is now. To think we had such a natural advantage over other countries due to our isolation, yet recently we had a larger spread of Omnicron than Europe and the US, and most of it is because ScoMo and Perriotet have just thrown their hands up in defeat and decided to let it rip, and the rest of the country are forced to go along for the ride whether we like it or not.
Yet our state government and tennis australia approved it on their end.Yeah I see it being reported now that he used the fact he contracted COVID in the past 6 months excuse. If that's the case he should have well known that it wouldn't work for entry to the country.
I do recall dan continually saying go out and get vaccinated to stop the spread though. How’s that working out. Have you figured out you’ve been lied to yet? How about when they told everyone that you won’t get covid if you get vaccinated?
Yeah, but those exemptions are for anyone who wants to be part of the tournament, whether you're coming from overseas or not. I agree that it looks really bad that they couldn't get the processes more consistent. But ultimately Novak has only himself to blame. I can't imagine he'd have been kept in the dark about what was required for entry.Yet our state government and tennis australia approved it on their end.
And yet every year 22 24 year-olds going at 80% beat our 22 80 year-olds going at 24%. That does in your head.
.I have a 4 year engineering degree and 8 years field experience with a big industrial company and this legitimately has never occurred to me. You have just improved my life
I think a lot of people have forgotten that when the first results for astra zeneca came out they initially assessed it as something like 60ish % effective and they were rolling out the party hats over it. Now vaccines are "only" 70% effective against Omicron everyone suddenly thinks they're a waste of time for some reason.No-one has ever been told the bolded. The idea of vaccination is to ensure that if you do catch it, you're more likely to have a less severe reaction to it and not have to be hospitalised and ease the strain on the hospital system.
Anyone who doesn't binge watch Sky News knows that.
