Yeah I saw that stat when watching the game and his palming to Freo players was good. Never doubted his influence as a ruckman but the problem was when resting forward he just used to go up one handed and then they could easily run off him.

True - but I think that stats counts for a great deal especially with the rule change.
He was very good in the Adel final playing fwd, creating crumbs, for our smalls.

He's gone to a team genuinely contending for top 4. That's where he belongs, not on our list and further preventing the development of Steene. We need to get games into Steene, not Mason.

Naicos generally doesn't take contested marks because he's just so good that very few can get anywhere near him when the ball's around. NWM may be tracking the same way.

The contested mark stat is a bit silly. Dunstall used to win contests early by blowing blokes away on the lead, so most of his marks were uncontested. Cloke couldn't get that separation as often so heaps of his mark has a contest in the end.

But with Nick and NWM last year, neither of them competed for marks that often. It just wasn't their role.

Alas! All I can do is weep and gnash my teeth. I still can't believe we gave away this underutilized weapon and now he has been picked up by the club many tip to be premiers. It hurts.

We have got by using Billy Frampton and AJ a season or two ago when we played in a prelim. You can cover a ruckman to a degree. Steen would be a better ruckman than Frampton so it's not the end of the world if Darcy misses a few. We are obviously a better team with DC playing.
