Plenty on here really need to check out and take a break.

Stop giving a shit about whats happening week to week in pre season.

It literally counts for nothing.

We play the Pies in Ballarat in 4 months time or so. Judge the muppets then.

Everything else between now and then is bullshit. The video and interviews and quote grabs and all of it.

You forgot to use the term "nuffies"

So Larkey alluded to two game plan tweaks for the coming season, that would help us defend better

One was specifically a defensive tweak, the other seemed to be offensive

And track watchers noticed anything?

Passmore ?
I assume by "tweaks" he doesn't mean recruiting Dovaston and having Logue vaguely fit?

I don’t think so

ITK’s reported post season that Clarko had acknowledged his way of defending needed to change. And then we appointed a new head of football strategy, so I assume it’s an actual game plan change vs personnel change

We "look" to be more 1x1 rather than zoning off.

Other than that, not really. There'll be others with a better eye for game style.

I suspect with the recruitment of smaller forwards, we'll be looking to utilise that pressure and having them get up and down the ground.

Caleb's 20m bomb to the picket, and then running himself, and his teammate, into trouble is still there. 👌

I heard/read that it included personal changes. It was a media bit with someone from the club. Can’t remember who now.

I recall the defensive tweak was conceding fewer goals and the offensive tweak was scoring more goals.

Revolutionary thinking by the masterminds down at the club. :rolleyesv1:

Thank god for that

That’s the first step to being competitive defensively imo

Also shows who’s not up to it as you can’t blame your team mates

Players will still come off their man to intercept obviously, but less guarding grass.

That's what we're paying MassiveJohnson for.

And as they should. Pink and Logue are decent enough one vs one imo

Chom intercepting

Hardeman, archer, fos and maybe Goater coming over to spoil

With decent pressure up the field we shouldn’t be as bad as we have been

Wonder if the merits of 1v1 go a bit unsung in the modern game. Yes, you'd need to concentrate, and there's less opportunity for fancy schmancy presses and so on that may yield turnovers, but when the alternative is ending up 8m from your man who takes a mark at half forward and then takes off in the direction of the goal, well, I wouldn't have any objections to such a tweak

The half backs will still look to press up I imagine.

Partly comes down to our ability to lock the ball in the forward line and not present a highway out of there.

If we can manage that, and not turn the pill over as much, opposition forwards won't be able to hang back waiting for gifts.

I’ve said this before, but I love repeating myself

In the final game vs Adelaide, I was sitting there, disgusted as Adelaide kicked the first of the day from a coast to coast kick in. Fogarty/tex marked the long bomb kick in, Fogarty Tex marked at hf, kicked inside 50 to an
Unmarked man.

Over the next 3 hours I watched us destroy the top team in the comp (based on ladder position) in the midfield but hey scored against time and time again from coast to coast transition

I thought to myself, well I guess this is just what the top team in the comp does. That’s why they’re the best.

Until i found out, to my horror, that th crowd were ranked 18th in the comp with transitioning th footy.

If I needed anymore proof that changes were needed other than Jeremy Cameron kicking 11 goals without a defender in sight, that final game as it

The crows are basically the opposite of us in they don't fart-arse around with it at all. Their games have the most turnovers (both for and against) of any team.

I whine about Clarko a lot, but he was onto something in that game with the way he used Corr on Keane. Other teams did similar in the finals. Cut out their interceptors and they'll struggle.

Plus their midfield was completely shown up

40 Degrees that day, not great for anything. Took my shade shelter early and some AFL bloke said “ you can’t bring that in”. I said GAGF and kept walking. Spent the next 3 hrs at the pub and back in time for the bounce. 🍺🍺

It's funny, I spent a bit of my childhood there (four or five years in the mid 90's) and I don't recall a single day like that. Had to run over to the local shopping centre for an ATM just so I could get my family some water at the ground as they had no eftpos facilities.

Would do it again though.

Might have had something to do with the change to midfield coaches.

Getting parking at Ballarat is a bitch, I can see it now 35 degrees driving an hour and a half, walking 6ks just to get in the ground ( if it’s not full) and cooking on the outer, that’s what I remember about Ballarat that time of year.

Looking forward to it 😳
Best places to park are probably Selkirk Stadium in Norman St and Major League Indoor Sport Centre in Howitt St. For the dogs games they open up parking at the back of the Selkirk Quarry in Norman St.
Agreed.

It's such a pity the central oval wasn't workable. A train ride and 15min stroll to a game, maybe a beer or two on the way there or back would be noice. (Much better for the local community / small businesses as well than a ground in the boonies).
Eastern Oval is in a very confined spot, was never going to be viable for redevelopment unfortunately. It's a less than 5min walk these days, with the back entrance on Scott Pde.

Best places for a beer near Mars are the North sports club on-site, the new bowling alley around the corner in Norman St or the Golfhouse Pub in Doveton St.

Clarkos master plan of training the side of small elements of football - it’s like the myagi , wax on/wax off about training certain skills.
Next season it all comes together - if you can see it , you better stick to the potato cake debate
