Not sure if posted but Craig OD saying on Duffs poddy that Bolton was working on his set shots with ex Docker Max Duffy who played punter in college football, they were filming him and focus on stopping his tendency to move out to the right in his run up and instead run straight, and he kicked 5.1 doing this.

At least he is trying to do something about it, all you can ask.

Big difference being we signed on Brodie before he fell out of favour. I imagine at the time they very much thought he'd be a big part of the future. Then he got dropped, brought back, dropped again, and ever since his WAFL performances fell down a cliff.

Sharp got re-signed after his down season. They know what he is - whether in a positive or negative sense. They didn't jump at the decision and sign him early. So to sign him now says that even in his down period they see something.

I think "lock" is an exaggeration - to me it's more likely our starting wings are Wagner and inside mids cosplaying as wingers. But I also think they see some value in Sharp and see him as at least real competition.

I really don't understand this call. Brodie barely played a game since his contract was signed.

Was there no talk between the selection committee and list management that Brodie was borderline best 22.

DUff and Walters said he is dropping the ball too high.

If he kicks straight he would be an unbelievable player.

Difference is Will was a midfielder playing in a stacked midfield, Sharp is a wingman playing in a team with little to no proper wings.

If you could merge the two players you'd have a superstar clearance mid that can run all day, both ways.

Voss was doing this when he got here, someone managed to fix it so there's hope there.. Voss is kicking so much better now

I think the fact the club is working on this with players is a great sign. Improving goal accuracy could easily win us a game or two this year.

Saying it's the best list we've ever had isn't saying that we're going to have the best season we've ever had. It's pretty clearly objectively true - we've never had this many All Australians, high picks that have delivered on potential and genuine A graders before. It just needs to click. We'll see if it does

Clearly objectively true? Do you forget McPharlin, Johnson, Sandilands, Mundy, Hill, Fyfe, Barlow, Neale, Pavlich, Ballantyne, Walters. Maybe not all at their peaks at the same time, especially with some injuries unravelling their collective output, but it's pretty hard to top that group of A graders.

If it's the best list we've ever had, it's going to be from Cox, McVee, Chapman, Johnson, Amiss, Voss, etc. Not the A graders at the pointy end of the list.

I think our grand final side was our best list ever by a fair way just wasn’t deep like our list now is. We probably had 7-8 A graders and top 3-5 players in there position in that side.
I actually find the list we have now very over rated we don’t have many match winners ( Serong at his best, Treacy Jackson and young)
But I don’t see Treacy as a top 5 forward yet Serong or young as top 10 mids. Jackson probably only one that’s a top 3-5 ruck
This years side just goes deeper.

I enjoy this debate.

My opinion on a comparison:

McPharlin, Johnson v Pearce, Cox

Sandilands v Darcy

Mundy v Young

Fyfe v Jackson/anyone

Neale v Serong

Barlow v Erasmus/MJ

Hill v Brayshaw (?)

Ballantyne, Walters v Bolton, Reid

Pavlich v Treacy

I didn't have a lot of trouble making my personal ratings even though some of the calls may have been marginal.

I think one thing that weighs in favour of our current list. Latent upside.

I think we have a number of players who have a significant 'next level' they could rise to. And I'll add that the club/coach seems to be well aware of it.

I think Ross Lyon would love Jordan Clark and Hayden Young into his 2013 team, both on half back. That midfield was huge, the Giants came into the league and Freo was fielding 211, Fyfe/Pav/Barlow/Mundy/Crowley at 192. The land of the giants.

So Caleb Serong and Andrew Brayshaw being smaller isn't going to work for them in regards to getting into Ross Lyon's heavy contest, big bodied midfield.

Sean Darcy or Luke Jackson in that side with one of Clark or Young and we win by 5 goals.

I’m the AFL daily podcast today our midfield trio of Young, Serong and Brayshaw was chosen by Damian Barrett as the best midfield trio in the AFL. He said slightly ahead of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney and Port i believe
Thats a big call.

If all 3 stay fit and continue on their current trajectories then yes they could be the best trio. But Id have Brissy with Neale, Dunks and Clugg ahead.

At full fitness I would rate some of these better;

Sydney - Gulden, Heeney & Warner
GC - Rowell, Anderson, Miller
Brisbane - Neale, Dunkley, McClugggage
Dogs - Bont, Richards, Libba
Cats - Smith, Holmes & Atkins

Not saying Serong, Young and Brayshaw aren't elite and top tier, but best is a stretch.

i think most of the top teams can match it with anyone and even wipe the floor of another at any game. dont think you can really claim any one is better than the other.
Where do people see Wagner lining up round 1?

I hear names like JOM, NOD, Sharp, Murray getting thrown around as wing options, but i personally think Wagner will line up on one of them.
all over id expect, think hes at his best close to the stoppage though personally

2013 Neale is nowhere near the player that Serong is currently. Brayshaw has Hill covered. Jordan Clark, Murphy Reid, excluded from comparisons?

2026 is very very good, not quite 2013 level, but getting closer, and hopefully passes 2013 in the next couple of years.
