Training 2026 Preseason

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

But seriously, I think BB is best on a wing as he’s a great at getting back to help the defence, but is not great as a 1:1 defender. So am genuinely curious about which group he’s training with.

I'm far more curious about the forward/ mid split Reid will do this season. He's done more in 1 season on field than BB in his entire career.

Yeh. That six week stretch on the wing where he had a good run, it was getting back to help the defence which was noticeable. Not sure reason they stopped it. Think he began tiring as the season wore

Think he is okay defensively 1v1 as he got few wins. The issue more is the quick players on the lead

Also we rely alot on team D. If it breaks down and coming in quick most of the team struggle 1v1

And his clangers defensively cost goals

Do you have an uncontrollable urge to insert yourself in every BB post 😭😂

Is there a big footy.function that provides a notification whenever a key word is used in a post 😬 or you using AI bot to reply to post..sux, clanger can't kick lol

There are threads I don't open because they are full of sneering criticism of players.

If you haven't got anything good to say don't say it. On the internet try to remember that you should be able to say to a person's face anything you type.
Not only that but its as boring as shit at this point. To have such a lopsided amount of discussion about one player - and a player who is fringe/depth at that. This is a preseason training thread and every other post is about Bailey Banfield ffs.
If only there was a dedicated thread for discussion about Banners....

Average clangers per game 2025.

Freo rated 17th for clangers but were rated 16th for total disposals so less opportunity to make an error I guess.

As you mention, coincides with disposals a lot. No surprise Serong and Brayshaw up the top given how much ball they get. Would be interesting to see clangers per disposal.

There is. But some certain few that also like to also post the same shiet there

Also BB is still in the squad and there are a few that still like to know how he is going preseason. It's when these few then hijack it to post their obligatory one line derogatory comments

So, staying firmly with the positive, this underlines what a highly skilled player Switta is

Not everyone is meek

Just finished watching Treacy's Day 1 pre-season, **** me how did we nab Treacy seriously. If anyone gets down to see how he trains, it's pretty remarkable. He takes the "train how you want to play" to a whole new level. Also that The Voss Academy has recruited like a third of the team is hilarious and encouraging. Karl being a day 1 recruit makes a lot of sense given his ability to take contested marks just kept growing this year.

I love hearing (from our chief pre season reporter Sherriff Incorporated and this segment) that JOM & Wags are absolutely smashing it running wise. We need these two, as part of the "elderly" amongst the team and they are both cool, calm heads. Good to see them driving standards.

Apropos of nothing, I would love to see the club bring in a powerlifting coach for a few sessions, some of the form on their lifting is so hard to watch. Lots of shrugging, concave chests, bent backs etc. I get they aren't aiming to be competitive powerlifters but correct form will increase their strength. The breathing techniques of powerlifting would also be very useful for any explosive movements.

I love the hype of pre-season, the TTHDs, the enthusiasm and I know I get swept up in it every year. But I have to say, since probably 2022? Definitely 23, 24, 25 every pre-season has felt like a building block. It hasn't been a rehaul or refresh, it has been consistently building on the previous year. Not just for most individuals but also as a cohort. I don't feel like there's any boom or bust, we aren't on a timeline to make it happen. We have a carefully curated list of extremely talented and more importantly, devoted and hard working, players that are driven to succeed. Let's hope they can put all the pieces together at the correct time ⚓

Lol I felt the same actually, some of the lifting technique could be improved.

I wonder if the average player actually receives any one on one lifting coaching or if they're teaching each other their bad habits.

Not the end of the world, they're still lifting very heavy.

Correct form is imperative

I lift and can't afford injury and at a professional sport level they need to minimize training injuries. The club definitely needs to make sure they have good technique.

whenever they show bench press, ooof hard watch 🫣

if they are only doing box squats and not the full depth I guess it limits a lot of that risk. and yeah you're right, they are still doing decent weights and their ultimate goal would be overall strength and explosiveness. feel they could get a lot more out of the 3 big lifts with a few lessons though

This. If BB plays, its in that defensive mid role. He is strong enough to out body a wingman in a 1 on 1 and was quite good in that role last time he got a shot. Otherwise, he will be playing at Peel.
