I assume it is because we have both Richmond and Port from the bottom 6. We have an even spilt between the 3 groups (1-6, 7-12 and 13-18).

Our draw is harder than it looks because Collingwood, Geelong and even Fremantle are our ‘bogey’ sides plus Port which is usually 50/50. Historically we don’t even have a good record against Richmond or WB.

That’s more of an us problem but it is the reality.

If we instead our double ups were against:

Brisbane
GWS
Gold Coast
WB
Port
West Coast

Which are all +/- one ladder position, we'd all be saying how easy our draw is.

Now they've I have had a chance to digest, our fixture isn't the worst. Its not easy (especially our start) but could be worse.

I think its more obvious that some teams are piss easy (look at Ports: Us, Essendon, North, Saints, Sydney, West Coast) but thats kinda the nature of finishing lower the year before.

I am kinda over giving hard teams harder draws, easy teams easy draws. Its a brand new season. Every team should start equal. Fine by saying everyone plays 2x from each group but trying to manipulate the fixture to prop up the bad teams and punish the good teams is a very strange concept.

We are stuck in a corrupted convoluted league that will not change anything away from the current unfair setup unless it moves more $ and power to the right people.

Need to let it go, accept that it’s not going to change to anything close to “fair”.

Just hope we are good enough to win a premiership in the next few years before we are eaten up by the new clubs that the AFL is desperate to hand success to on a platter.

Agree with that. The average ranking is 9.5. The double ups should average about that for every club. Obviously we can’t predict the next years ladder, so there’s inherent variability, but every teams fixture should be as theoretically equal as each others. Let the slugs play each other more often earlier in the season to get some wins and interest going. But that’s as far as we should be going to assist them.

I was expecting our draw to be harder TBH. I still think its one of the harder ones in the comp but that's what happens when you finish up the top.

For those thinking Port have such an easy start, the shit teams usually aren't as shit at the start of the year as they are at the end of it, so I dont think their start will be as easy as you think.
