Pleads concern for players mental health then repeats hearsay on the airwaves. Hypocrite of the highest order.

The club may have made the wrong decision for Elijah to play but they made a catastrophic error in keeping him on the field when it was clear that he wasn’t right. In my view the on field leaders and sideline coaches (including Voss) absolutely failed the leadership test.

PS it was on social media quickly (before 1/2 time), surely clubs media manager would have been picking up phone to GW and CD saying this looks ugly?

But you sort of run that through a logic test and it doesn’t make sense. I mean, why would a bloke who is coaching for his future and under enormous public pressure play a guy who he had some sort of inkling was drunk? It just makes no sense to me.

I don't think it's meant that black and white - as in Voss wouldn't have known he was literally drunk.

Voss admitted they were monitoring him throughout the week - so they knew he was probably battling with something. No way they would've known he was drunk (if he was), my assumption would be is that in order to 'look after him' they let him make his own choices & show trust in his judgement - which they did - without fully knowing what was going on.

To me this part is just a poor decision & bad judgement.

It's pretty poor that they didn't recognise that something was wrong before the game but not figuring out that he wasn't in any state to be playing AFL footy by quarter time is just unfathomable to me. I'm probably missing something but I cannot understand it.

It doesn't even matter what the eventual truth of events is, the club has demonstrated its utter negligence for allowing something this absurd to even happen in the first place.

I think he was playing pretty normal minutes until the last quarter which is why it ended up at only 60%

100% this is spot on. I'm not blaming Elijah, we know the kid has issues, I'm just dissapointed with everyone around him from the player leadership group to the coaches and everyone involved in a leadership/management capacity. Beyond an absolute joke, I'm sorry to say but we're a rabble, we really really are.

This is beyond disgraceful - he was spraying them in front of assistant coaches in the warm up and was off with the pixies from the fist bounce. The whole crowd knew.

Absolute negligence. Hope the club gets sued and heads roll over this. Drunk, drugs, mental health whatever facts are he was left on the MCG to rot until the start of the 4th quarter!

BTW, I don't trust what the club and AFL say... their best course of action is to say it's mental medical condition only... the alternative has serious ramifications.

Old school journos don't go ahead with a story without at least verifying something a single source provides them; that way, they don't just get sucked into a tall tale. The real conservative ones will risk being late to get three sources, regardless of how urgent it is to go ahead. Caro used to be pretty careful concerning her sources, ensuring that she'd gotten enough evidence to keep from libel/slander; her record is pretty blemish free as a consequence.

Having said that, she's been a bit more hit and miss about us for a few years, and FC is a muckraking show where they are encouraged to go halfcocked because if they turn out to be wrong that becomes the story itself. I've been wondering a bit of she's been worn down to only requiring a single source for a while now, and Collingwood players coming forward to this could be enough.

We'll see if there's a fire, but this is an awful lot of smoke.
