Position 2026 Rucks

They’ve still got to score 3300 points…..someone has to get them.

Open free flowing footy in pre season, coaches will find a way to slow the game down in the season proper.

Think we collectively need to pump the breaks. I’ll be starting Gawn and Xerri and backing them in.

Reassess at end of round 2 as others have stated.
This is a great discussion.

Sorta agree.

I'm leaning towards hedging my bets. Big Max at R1 - despite obvious bias - a fair few of his points at late in the game with contested marks across half back. He often goes from 80 at 3 quarter time to 140 at games end. Has a bigger tank and more smarts than opponents late.

Xerri for me is gone and I genuinely don't like any other options until I see what I'm playing with and how the scoring works. I think it's a better option to get a premo MID, like Callaghan, because I know what I'll get out of him whereas who knows with the Ruck changes. Safer play I reckon.

Thinking R2/R3 rookies - one being Reidy which means I can always swing any MID or FWD pick that's not up to it in to R2 after a few rounds. Going to start with 100k in the bank to enable this flexibility.

Grundy gets around the ground well.
Might be the perception, but the data shows that Xerri most affected by rule changes, then Grundy, then daylight to the rest.

Grundy would have the skills to get more involved in transition though?

McAndrew looked ok but he is very lean so the big boys will bash him up around the ground. I think he could definately be a 70+ scoring rookie though if he gets the chance.
Yeah but I think the point is that he only needs to score 60s. Whether you have a F6 rookie scoring 60's or R2 rookie scoring 60's, same shit. I think most of us were starting Gawn/Xerri in our first teams because they were reliable for 120+ but the longer things have been discussed and games have reinforced, there are now genuine concerns on Ruck scoring.

The simplest equation is this; who do you have more faith starting the year with - Xerri or Butters (roughly same price).

You'd think so, although now 31 and no more than he would have had the skills to get involve in transition last year. Would have to improve a bit to pick up the loss from stoppages.

I mean this is what I want to do but problem is who is the R3? Reidy or CDT? If Reidy plays its a pretty easy choice... but CDT is an expensive rookie for the bench with low cash gen potential

Can start a donut R3
Yeah, but it's one less rookie making money.

If you save 100k of a premo losing that value then the rookies done it’s job even without making money

The price of the premo is irrelevant if you don't trade them.

All the top guys are going to lose close to that at some point of the season anyway.

IMO folk get too worried about premo prices, it's a AF thing I think. I see people talking about making money out of Steele for example, don't get the logic. You don't pick premo's expecting to trade them.

Saying that I accept it's possible we may have to jump off Gawn/Xerri.

Yeah, nah.

31 starting players. Always. Missing cash gen just sets you up to be behind everyone else. You might do well early, but not mid or late.

It’s only natural that if the game is in transition more that rucks will score more transition points. Seems pretty simple to me.
Stoppage points may go down but other areas like transition should go up.

Hey Uncle I just watched a bit of the Dees v Nth game and big Max Heath beat Xerri at CBA’s and matched up quite well around the ground too. I think he actually beat X on the day for hitouts.
I see he played a few games late last season, do you thinks he's going to get regular game time this season?

I think it’s relevant in this discussion if your paying for 125 points and getting 100 points

Your basically wasting 100k per Ruck.

i agree that premium prices don’t matter if you don’t trade them but ideally you select starters hoping they are priced at neutral value or better.

Starting that much of a defecit just feels like a way to go backwards.

As far as Steele goes I agree with you. I don’t get the pick. He’s an inbetweener type. Not a real premo but too expensive to make you big $$$ needed

Not a huge tank at this stage either so won’t expect normal 1st ruck tog out of him yet but
Bryan ready in 6-7 rounds, might be a good year to churn R2 a couple of times and settle on
rucks after mid season byes even for me.

Was just about to ask this as he’s not getting much love. JS issue or too expensive, I wonder 🤔?

Based on all our impeccable logic TDK will either appreciate in value or lose the least either way.

He was phoning it in the last month or two at Carlton. He knew he was gone.

Plus vossy had him in the naughty corner stuck fwd.
Even with job sharing the ruck with roma, he'll at least hold his value.

Lyon confirmed last week that king wont (best case) be back until at least rnd 5- and even then, likely through the VFL.

So roma is going to be playing a lot of fwd line.

He also has a great fixture run after Gawn in R1

R2: GWS (Briggs/Madden) either are poor
R3: BL (Fort/Draper) Not sure Draper will be fit Solo Fort won't be hard for him
R5: PA (Visintini/Sweet) Dante looked poor Sweet has no hops
R6: ADL (McAndrew) Looks like he could be solid but not as athletic
R7:WCE (Flynn) Free Points
R8: CARL (Pitt/Reidy) Free Points
