Position 2026 Rucks

really want all three of gawn, jackson and mcandrew but feel like this year is the year to have a rook at R2. everytime i go to change them i can’t get rid of the two premos. decisions decisions.

Weirdly this year is actually a great year to have a premo ruck setup with so many good midpricers.

Decent rookies in Def and forwards, lots of midprice mids. If we had any ruck certainty you’d just set and forget and load up.

That’s what I’m doing. Top premos always loose value over the season but make up for it in bulk points. Overpaying in the ruck line for those bulk points/locked in R1/2 and chasing value elsewhere is far more attractive to me even if I know I’m likely burning 200k

Edit: say you start Gawn/Xerri and they each lose 10% value. Thats approx 140k

Now typically a trade is worth 150k so you’re essentially burning 1 trade on your ruck line. While getting the maximum possible points for that line over the course of the season (assuming both are R1/2)

Starting a risky r2 at minimum will cost you 3 trades to get to a premo but is always a headache and if the rucks don’t drop that much due to finding other avenues for points then your screwed

Genuinely considering starting this
If that goes bad, your season is over.

The risk far outweighs the reward I reckon.

I reckon Zako will get dropped. If not this week, definitely after their bye when Gardiner is back. Draper is back and Joyce will come in for Andrews.

This is a good post and should be food for thought, but what if for example Gawn and Xerri both drop from 127 to average 110. That's a 15% drop and closer to 200K loss. 110's also take you more regularly out of a decent captain score which is a key consideration for where to have your SP's in your team.

I don't blame anybody for questioning their ruck setup this year and it'll be a fun ride for those with the agates. Personally, I'm splitting the difference and looking at the higher prices mobile rucks like English who will hopefully hold their value. Plus, I just can't trust coaches not to flip underperforming rookie rucks when the chips are down - usually long-term injuries to established rucks is the only way to fully trust a rookie.

Spot on. Fages loves his defenders with a bit of experience. Plus I wasn't as impressed with ZZ's defensive abilities last year when I saw them, plus his kicking has been laughable at time in the VFL. Both got better as the year progressed to be fair, but much better suited as a mobile 2nd ruck at this stage.

Beginning to think Darcy Cameron is the safest ruck to pick.

Gets a lot of points away from ruck contests with intercept marks.

Just scored 107 in a game with only 49 hitouts. Surely that bodes very well for games that have high ruck contests that he's in

For sure. I think many are going for those top 8 rucks rather than the big three because it seems like the best risk averse option.

Cameron/English/Jackson/tdk seem to have upside and get their scoring from other avenues other then hitouts/tackles

So you get a premium ruck score, you don’t lose as much money and get a nice each way bet.

I think that the best teams don’t plan to succeed, they plan to fail and it’s about what worst case scenario you can live with.

Two of Gawn/Grundy/Xerri, Worst case they are 200k overvalued and that costs me 40points a round until teams become complete in rd 12

So that’s 480 points + 1-2 trades To make up the $$$

Worst case scenario with English/cheaper rucks your 20ppg short of Gawn/Grundy and over 24 rounds that’s max 480 points. And would cost 3 trades to fix/change.

So there’s not much difference

been dilemerising on rucks too much but like this combo,

gets me 2 rucks through the early byes and can work it out from there,

plus i was able to get an extra rook into the team in rosas into forward and move trac to mids for now in the money juggle , bruhn m7 so at least jag/gryl m8 moving forward

rucks.webp

Interrupted preseason. Happy to wait and see. Might be eased into it and drop a bit while he slowly gets going.
Traditionally we give recruits every chance in the seniors, but yeah game time could be managed early on with more time up forward. But he wouldn't be dropped to the twos. I supposed he could be rested, which amounts to the same thing.

I think pretty much everything is a risk with rucks this year.

Do you think ZZ holds with Gardiner back?
