Position 2026 Rucks

Best 18 R2 - 4 gives you a fair bit of time to assess the landscape tbf. Bound to have an underperforming premo/injury elsewhere over those 3 weeks that can correct it.
I could prob handle the risk if the role was clearly McAndrews, rather than a battle. ROB has been axed a couple of times over the journey, monstered SANFL rucks and been back in 2 weeks. Being forced into a double trade that early feels like a bit too much risk for me to take on, but each to their own.

That said, would def be keen to field him if he is named Rd 1 given the scoring potential of lead rucks outside Reidy. I'd prob drop him in the flex with a DPP R3 where he can cover rucks through the byes but if he is dropped he can be swapped out for a bubble rookie from any other line

Right now, but things change daily, I have White R3 R/F, Reidy F7 R/F, McAndrew Flex............ready to change if not named Rd1

Very good Analysis by former MELB Ruck, Jeff White ......it does reflect some of the tactics & ruck craft, the new rules will bring

It does make you think more about Cameron versus English

While this is an excellent ruck craft analysis I'm not sure it tells much more about the best ruck picks for SC this season. Basically you could distil the examples down to a case of ruck "rock paper scissors" where Cameron chose the right option more often than not. And he indeed may have had a better tactical prep than some of his opponents remembering it's a first live game under the new rules so lots of room for adaptation and learning yet.

I'd still back the existing ruck hierarchy while agreeing that the rucks with more jumping power and mobility (eg English) might get a small relative improvement at the expense of the behemoths (eg Xerri). So nothing that's not already been postulated.

I await a greater sample size - including data on ruck tog and positioning around the field in general play and team selections with second rucks in real AFL games with interest.

Yes, I agree ....my position is, those nearly $700K Rucks (Xerri & Gawn) will no doubt drop to $600K in short time

That's nearly $180K savings to add to another line ....the difference between a Mid-Pricer & a Premo ....so I'll take that saving until we know who the heck to put our money on

Conceptually I agree, happy to fade Max but Xerri's draw may mean that his 160s turn into 140s through the first 6-8 weeks. Doesnt get much easier than this run for a ruck with no early bye

Maybe, and the Draw is enticing ......but Xerri is so stoppage orientated, and likely the most affected by the rule changes ......particularly the quicker ball-ups

Of course, this could all be a huge overreaction & the adjustment in Ruck scoring could be minimal ......It'll depend on your appetite for risk

I am pro fade Gawn and Xerri this year.

You don't think Xerri is capable of adapting?

The ruck coach at North will be showing him the same footage and they will be working out a plan.

Gawn was getting on top of Cameron after QT. They will adapt.

Taylor Petty May
Rivers Turner Jiath
Windsor Steele Lindsay
Salem JVR Chandler
L Pickett Mihocek Fritsch
Gawn Langford K Pickett
Culley Mentha Viney Langdon (Bowey)

Last team posted with multiple likes on the dees board.

No May, Culley and Viney right?

Rivers is a bit below average as a mid
Picket is hot and cold and will draw a tag
Steele is past his best (might still be ok for close to 110 - i am not ruling it out with nothing around him)
Langford in year 2
Salem should do ok but never better low 90s

Yes of course, but the adaption period maybe 5-6 weeks into the season ....and by then what will his price be then

My plan (sneaky) .....is to start English / Cameron & Jackson ......determine the best Ruck available ..... then on "Cheap Arse Tuesday" buy, and put Jackson down to my Flex

Having three Rucks last year worked a treat .....that of course will depend on the scoring impact of Rucks & if they adapt as you say
