Looked great. Played as an inside mid most of the first 3 quarters and then was in the ruck for the last quarter after Darcy got tired. Definitely on my watchlist this round. I have the cash to do a cheeky Macdonald > LJ trade after this round if he plays well again.

LJ didnt spend much time forward which i think bodes very well for his scoring potential! Small sample size obviously but we only get 2 looks before price movements. If he looks the goods again, i dont think ill hesitate to get him in.

Also, yes to R/M DPP!

Meek's effectiveness at the centre bounce has been hindered by the new rules. He doesn't have a big jump and usually uses his strength and body positioning to win taps, which he can't do at CBA's with the new rules. Reeves isn't a huge leaper either but is a giant and can win centre bounce taps to advantage more effectively than Meek. Given the midfield, and especially centre bounce, is Hawthorn's biggest weakness, is the reason Reeves is in.

I agree with the other Hawthorn poster that he should get a run at it and should win taps when he is on the ground. However, he usually doesn't do a lot else around the ground (which is why Meek has been No 1 despite being a little less effective at the taps). He definately won't kick 2 every week like he did against Essendon (he's kicked 10 goals in his previous 43 games, and only 3 since 2022). He also only got 53% game time (which admittedly makes his score look even more impressive but I think is a warning sign). With the extra man on the bench, he and Reeves are effectively sharing one spot - as both on the ground at once makes us too tall/slow.

I would at least take another look tomorrow night against a decent ruck in Grundy as Blakiston/Essendon is not exactly the benchmark. If he goes well again, you can consider him as a cash cow but I personally will not be considering him (unless Meek went down with an LTI and Reeves became sole ruck).
