And tbh - I don't think they will. The B graders they're bringing aren't going to turn them into contenders.

I like it for the NGAs next year. I don't see the saints winning the flag next year. Maybe the year after.

If we aren't knocking on the door of finals by the end of 2027, that lack of 3rd rounder will be the least of our worries.

It shouldn't be as bad next year. Carlton, for example, are going to burn two picks for Walker, as are Fremantle for Robinson. If anything, that pick could move up the order.

Not a fan of this trade for us, future third was entirely unnecessary. Saints have smashed the trade period and I would expect them to play finals from here. They have actually been pretty diligent going to the draft and putting games into the picks they've used since the NAS draft, are going about things pretty sensibly. I've basically just ingnored the Saints existence the past 5 years but a few months back I decided to look into who'd been using the draft and how and Saints came out on top for players drafted and games put into draftee's over the period we've been rebuilding. Very similar stats to us but more method and less busts.

Wish Ryan the best but end of the day Saints are stronger picking him up, we are weaker letting him go, and swapping a mid to late 2nd rounder for an early to mid third rounder values him at next to nothing really. Oh well. One year we'll bolt up the ladder could easily still be 2026 so it won't really matter necessarily.

To be fair to them they basically handed us that match, Adam Hunter tragic circumstances and could tell from before the bounce by the vibe [shocked, respectful, non-conbative ] coming from Ross that it was going to be one of those games that was a bit bigger than football. Not sure any team is going onto an opponents home deck after an incident like that and bringing their a-game. Still kind of an embarrassment for us really that the only game the boys could muster the passion to fully show up was under those circumstances. Either way I wouldn't read too much into the Saints loss or our win on a game played in that unique a circumstance.
