And here we go. Pity its the Creek. Round 1 should be as big an event as the GF in Adelaide. Would love the Homebush Street event to return.
The issue with Homebush was it was in Sydney.

Most of the city didnt care or even know it was on. It wasnt a bad track but like a lot of Sydney events in general, it lacks a vibe.

It had plenty of vibe. Had great atmosphere and crowds. One problem is our government are owned by hippies.
Dont buy into the Olympic park is dead for atmosphere etc. It has plenty. The race showed it, as have many events since the place was built in 2000 (or just before).

The problem was they built Accor to be everything for everyone and it became meh for everything and so was used for the attacks on the precinct. The precinct is great and getting better yearly.

I've been to plenty of Sydney sporting events, and aside from the A League Sydney derby, and the odd NRL club game, its just a bunch of people watching sport. Granted I havent been to a GWS/Sydney game.

Again the problem with Homebush is its miles away.

The race was fine, but it had an atmosphere of a Thursday at a Bathurst or Adelaide.

Newcastle is the spot.

Sydney Derby/Battle of the Bridge games are great, would say also.
Every NRL GF, Every SOO, Rugby World Cup Final, Asian Cup Final, Lions Tour, 2016 Sydney Derby Final at Accor, Easter Monday games, Soccer World Cup Qualifiers, That 1 ALeague Sydney derby, Supercars Street Circuit, NBL, A ridiculous amount of concerts including multiple ACDC concerts that sold out Accor. etc etc. You seem to eat up the click bate.

1 It isn't Homebush, its Olympic Park. Its in the literal middle of Sydney. It also has the best transport options in Sydney. A ridiculous amount of parking stations, a Train station, Buses, taxis and currently building Light rail and Metro.

Completely disagree.

Newcastle was a great race. Should be still there. But Olympic Park should be round 1.

Olympic Park just didnt work, otherwise they'd have stayed.

Supercars are desperate to have a marquee NSW round and the facts are, it just has never worked.

The sports culture is different. You can disagree all you like but its true.

It did work until government bullshit came in.

I can disagree. Because it isnt true.

Olympic Park actually makes a lot of sense as a venue, it's pretty easy to shut down. Although admittedly there's far more residential apartments there now than there was when the race was run.

Despite being close to the city, it's always been a bit annoying to get to on public transport, unless there's a huge event on and they run trains directly to SOP (Easter show, Origin etc). So many times I've had to get off at Lidcombe and get the connecting train across.

Eastern Creek has no real atmosphere because it's so big and barren really. I work 2 mins from there (in a mechanical workshop that's looked after Cup Cars etc) and the track itself is good but I understand how it's an underwhelming season opener.

I do like the track, and under lights is a nice little change-up.

Yeah the night racing at least brings something a little bit different.

Will be interested to see the crowd figures. The one thing they've done well is they're running it before the footy starts up again. Theoretically they're getting a free run at things.

There has just been no promotion

There really isn’t.i literally wrote you a list.
That list included international games that wouldve sold out anywhere, SoO that DO sell out everywhere else theyre played and Sydney derby games who no one could care less for. The Homebush 500's biggest crowd was lower than the Adelaide 500s biggest crowd.

And lets not mention the average crowd for a GWS game.

In any case, NSW do need a big motorsport event, and Newy was it. Great views, pretty good track and a public who (mostly) embraced it.

Selling off motorsport assets like Amaroo and Oran Park doesnt make things easier. Its where the SA Motorsport Board and the SA Govt tend to do the right things, and a billionaire family who live a breathe motorsport certainly helps.

Oh I don't disagree. I only know it's on this weekend due to this board really. I knew it was first up but I had no idea what weekend.

Theres genuinely no FTA promotion about Supercars anymore, save for a small clip on Sunrise this morning.

The Newcastle track had awesome views but I really didn't love it as a track. Found it was too tight to really encourage too much overtaking. Went to the first couple of them and found it difficult to see much at the track as well.

It's absolutely a shame they've practically sold off all but Eastern Creek in the Sydney area.

Yeah it was tight, bit better than Canberra mind you.

The new Wakefield Park looks the goods, but im not sure its a venue that would pull a massive crowd.

I haven't been back to Wakefield since reopening but I believe there was a noise issue? Or has that been resolved? Was also a fairly small track.

As you say though as well, not sure a lot would travel to Goulburn for it.
