Analysis 2026 - The Way Forward

7 weeks ago, questions were being asked re: whether Roberts, Gus, Rosas & Serong would be quality AFL standard players for the Sydney Swans.

Now - not only are they proven AFL standard, but if you asked who our “bottom 6” are, there’s a fair chance none of them feature.

To my eye, those 4 have been pivotal to our improvement this year. They’ve all exceeded expectations and are contributing massively.

Now - if we could add say an Edwards to that list ….. look out!

Shield your eyes DQ, as I would still have Sheldrick in our bottom six players, which is no great shame considering I think he's in the company of names like Rowbottom, Cunningham, Lloyd, Rampe & McDonald.

I think he's absolutely got the potential to elevate himself though, and I could see it happening as soon as the coming weeks if he continues his form from last night.

I’m not sure we are giving the team enough credit for the improvement in the handball skills.

It wasn’t long ago that handball and run was one of our biggest weaknesses (along with physicality).

The fact that handball is now a standout strength and that physicality is no longer a weakness, is a huge credit to the players and coaches.

Bravo.
