Crunch time for Banch, Harvey, Stevens, Konstanty and RHJ - all in a similar on-field position and fighting for a contract.

Could add George and Duursma to that list as well.

Potential for a huge list transformation next season.

Absolutely not where we want to be heading into compromised drafts... Cannot afford to be losing both Wardlaw and Duursma either. Reckon Banch makes it tbh.

No I think it means Logue, Corr and/or Pink fail. I don't think we find out in 2026 whether or not Dawson is a bust. He has more time than that.
Agreed.

I do have a really good feeling about both Dawson & Whitlock though.

They’re going to be huge lads. They’ve been drafted because they’re good at footy. They both seem enthusiastic & committed to the cause.

They’ll be part of the turn when it does actually happen. Here’s hoping it’s 2026.

I’m sick of waiting now.

Goater, George, Duursma, Goad. For me it’s these guys who will be huge in dictating if this rebuild creates a good team or a great team. So far we’ve gotten next to nothing out of them, but if by some miracle they come good, we’re really cooking with gas. I’d also have Dawson and Whitlock as extremely important obviously but it’s those guys above who could really set us apart if it goes right. Not saying it’s likely, in fact it’s very unlikely. But a man can dream.

Goater and George try not to get injured challenge. Please footy gods let them have a clear run at it!

I dont share in your optimism, I reckon they’ll be busts but I will be extremely elated to be wrong

Goater has potential to play like Weddle however has missed almost 2 years of development that just getting right has been his focus. He’s going to be so far behind the 8 ball that even if he does get his body right he’ll be only an average player.

George? I dont know who that is

Butters >>>>>>> Weddle as far as next years targets go, has he snubbed * ?

Apparently Butters manager called around a few clubs recently basically saying don't bother, two are believed to be Essendon and Fremantle.

Watch us get overexcited because we didn't get the preemptive "no thanks".

Only because the manager forgot we existed.

Hahaha this would be hilarious if true

It filtered out yesterday from some Essendon wags with this news about the Bombers targeting Weddle, it actually marries up. No point mucking about, it'll be the biggest FA story since 2025. Bloody great if you ask me, give the manager little jobs in the off season :D

I imagine we got that call too, apparently the list was fairly sized.

Imagine Butters suffers a career but not life threatening injury this season.

Manager will suddenly be ringing us all Costanza style "oh  that! I wasn't serious I was messing with you, honestly!".

Obviously we all want to win more games, but when I hear stories like this I really want to see us slot 8 wins by the half way point to make people eat a shit sandwich.

Unless, by some miracle we pull wet toast 12 times until the bye would that happen.. and even then i’m unsure we could muster up 8 wins by mid year

Why are we adding Zane and Jorge?

You don't draft kids with Superstar talent and start putting them in the shop window 18 months after serious injury. It's crazy talk.

When we have so many frauds, why don't we start with the dreadfully cuck and work our way backwards from there. It's much more productive.

There's no real hurry, I'd have thought. Jorge showed plenty this year in the VFL, expecting him and Zane are ready to impact positively from Rd1 2026.

We ****ing need them to. And Goater.

There's 3 we need to have good 2026's. We have got 2AA players from Pick 73 and Pick 74 on our list, and we're still pox despite have a zillion Rd1+ R2 selections.

Great minds, and all that!

I started writing my response, lost it, but returned this morning for some reason.

A 36 month planner approach.

The Locks
Excepting injuries & extenuating circumstances
  • Sheezel
  • Wardlaw
  • LDU
  • McKercher
  • Larkey
  • Curtis
  • Comben (injury risk)
  • Zurhaar
These are the guys (imo) who when fit and in form are A-grade at league level by position. The core we build around with 90% confidence.

The Senior Players
  • FOS - youth, no best pos yet
  • Simpkin - morale, best pos queries
  • Stephens - back it up
  • Powell - needs to go up a level
  • Xerri - ruck changes, 1 trick pony who will be worked out?
The next group of guys that I'd plan around. Each has a query so I'm down to 75% confidence.

The Maybes
  • Hardeman - need more sample
  • Logue - fitness, form, focus
  • Pink - can he stretch a serviceable half season into a longer term thing in a hopefully improving team?
These guys should be taking spots over this period but have more queries on them than the previous group for mine. 60% confidence.

The Medical Room
  • Goater
  • George
  • Archer
All have shown AFL quality or potential that should earn them a spot if fit. Which they rarely are. ~30% confidence.

The Fringes & Depth Players
  • Fisher
  • Daniel
  • McDonald
  • Duursma
  • Scott
  • Banch
  • Trembath
  • RHJ
  • Konstanty
  • CCJ
  • Harvey
A mix of players - some have shown AFL traits in very brief samples, some are mature players who haven't locked down a spot, there's guys who need more strings to their bows, guys who might be phased out by others doing their role better. 40% confidence.

The Nursery
  • Urquhart
  • Dawson
  • Goad
  • Whitlock
  • Stevens
Developing players with too little exposed form to project on.

The Fading Out
  • Parker
  • Darling
Good players you'd expect to retire over this period.

Keep in mind this is a 3 year depth exercise, am looking at what a genuinely competitive North Melbourne looks like in 2028 and beyond as the core group are hopefully all peaking at the same time.
