There’s a stack of due diligence required on Hill before we should even think about chasing him

Reading that article I’d be very wary introducing him into what’s a very young player group. Not entirely against it given his talent that fills a clear list need for us but you’d want to be confident he’s resolved his personal issues
Everything about Bobby Hill screams Fremantle.

But even then I cannot see them chasing him if they have to pick up his (rumoured) $750k pa contract. If (IF!!!) he came with a significant salary dump then there is a chance he is chased by the purps.

I wouldn’t go after Bobby.

He clearly has some personal issues which have spilled into several seasons and remain unresolved. He’s too high of a risk for someone of that position.
Yep - milked his normal Smith for all it was worth.

Remember the hype around 2016 Norm Smith Jason Johannasen? I was shocked to realise he's still on the Dogs list - just fell off into oblivion. Bobby Hill will be the same.

I dunno, I'm definitely on the side of not worth it for us atm - these players feel more feasible if you're an experienced side who's been up the top for a while (Sydney, Geelong in particular both fit this bill and are in media immunity zones from Vic media targeting but also the Melbourne bubble).

But rate Hill as a player. Johannisen I don't actually think was ever that good, and his Norm came on the back of getting left alone and getting a lot of touches (and better players on the ground IMO). Hill I think is actually a really good player at his best, and genuine crumbling small forwards who can turn a game are a) finals valuable and b) pretty rare, not all teams even have one. Bolton is the only one at Freo I rate and think they'd love him to playmake more if another dangerous small could play closer to goals.

Again personal issues and the state of our list would mean I wouldn't be keen for WC, but IF he sorts his issues out wouldn't be writing his career in general off just yet.

The kid can play and he’s the right age profile for what we need (26 in a few days).

The only avenue I’d consider getting him would be one years as a SSP Rookie.

Not a Hill to die on IMHO.

Can't believe ppl want LNeale on our list next year!?

It's so obvious the guy would go into nonchalant, I've-already-won-my-silverware, cruise-control mode and would be just here to pick up a paycheque.

Would rather be developing our future midefield stars and getting games into them.
Whoa, why do you think he’d be phoning it in next year?

As a mate pointed out to me today, we don’t have a lot of great horsepower in our midfield and he would certainly support the development of the likes of Harley, Hewett, Hall, Gross, Duursma et al. Not to mention raising standards at training and on game day.

I want him next year and quite happy for him to just be there to collect a pay check so he can pay for child support.

We aren't going to have little Judd's languishing in wafl by Neale coming in. great addition to young group and teach them.

Going for Walter makes complete sense honestly.
Might not be our highest need for 2027 or 2028 seasons but in 5 years when Harley/Hewett/Duursma/etc are entering their primes, Waterman will be finishing up.
Shanahan and Walter as our main 2 from then who are also around their mid 20s would be huge.

Try & get Alex Davies packaged up with him aswell.

Warner the next year as a FA & teams looking good.

If you’re looking a few years down the road, say 2029, Archer Reid will be 24 by then and coming into his prime. He’s a year older than Shanahan. CDT will be 22.

Who knows, JWilliams might’ve come on as a forward-ruck by then and he’d be 26.

I just don’t think it’s worth going after Walter. Alex Davies on the other hand, yes, I do.

A Davies seems he didn't want to come otherwise he would be on our list, we weren't strongly linked but there where a lot of clubs interested in him.
eaglevision posted recently about packaging Walter and some other players like Davies & J Rogers in a deal and that makes huge sense.

Package up Walter and J Rogers and that fits 2 list needs for 10 years, a KPF and a speedy, highly skilled, clean player who can HF/SF where there is a hole.
Then we keep adding our NGA's in this position and find a couple more over the next few years.

Not only do Tassie have a glut of R1 picks in 2027, they can also prelist players this year from the 2027 draft cohort which will further dilute the available pool

If Jed Walter becomes a realistic target, I’d be happy to offer our 2027 R1 pick for him and keep this year’s probable top 5 pick for the best midfielder available

We have been slowly adding some great potential midfielders, and next year we add another top 5 pick midfielder to the mix. So while we're not contending let's get some games into them.

I would get it the past 3 years, But I think in the 2027 season we will have turned a corner and will be on a steady rise and I think the plus side of getting games into another potential A grader outweighs the benefits of Lachie's 'example'.
Btw he strikes me as an awesome player but perhaps not an awesome leader/mentor... I realise I'm just a guy on a keyboard though and could be wrong.

plenty of fodder that can be sent to wafl for this imminent a grader. there will be a spot for Neale.

Busslinger doesn't have a fast twitch fibre in his body, he's like a skinnier Jack Williams in that regard. The only way he has a long career is if your backline and midfield is so good you can carry all his flaws and use him as a purely offensive player. But why not make that player in your team a much quicker, run and carry player??.....He's up against it imo

all good. have you not heard? we have 7 bontempellis on our list with another one on the way at end of this year.

Am I reading this right that Tasmania can prelist 12 players from the 27-28 cohort.

That’s a ridiculous concession if so, I remember gc and gws had mini draft but wasn’t that like 2 players and they had to trade it .

12 players of choice seems OP.
Plus the fact they get a fk load of picks in 27 and basically a blank cheque to steal some marquee players.

Wth.

That’s correct. But the kids can opt out, article below:

For example, promising tall Walsh shapes as a No.1 contender for next year's draft but in discussions the Devils could opt out of the 2027 draft pool and instead sign him as a 17-year-old this year and commit on a four-year deal (including 2027 and then three years after that).

But the 17-year-olds can also choose not to go to the Devils in this window and instead enter the open draft pool in 2027.

Do you know if those contracts are subject to the same earning restrictions that draftees are held to?

For example, the amount Harley can be paid this year is set by the standard contract all draftees are bound by and can’t be increased beyond very stringent parameters

If the Devils can negotiate with say, Axel Walsh, and offer more lucrative terms than he’d get if drafted it could become pretty enticing for him

Clubs looking/needing to rebuild through 2027/28 are going to be in a world of hurt
