I love Soup as a journeyman, but if he can't get his body on the park then I believe that's the best course of action. Hopefully he isn't lost to the system because from all I've heard he is a gem of a human being.

Shame too, because I think he would have also benefitted under King.

I would love to see Sparrow leave if we could get an end of first round compensation or second round pick.

Use that and Gold Coast pick to move up draft board and get to elite kids.
Two top 10s before Tassie could set us up.
I feel like this always gets mentioned and it never happens.

I have a feeling Sparrow isn't going anywhere anyway. One more thing I just thought of is if Sparrow is out of contract does that make him a free agent or a restricted free agent?

Restricted free agent would be a player who reaches free agency under contract. If he's coming out of contract he would be an unrestricted free agent

Not everyone can stay though coz we have to make room for Nick Daicos. There is going to be a shattered player.
We've had Bailey Laurie playing the Nick Daicos role for a bit. Do you reckon Nick Daicos could do that?

I would agree to Nick coming to Melbourne but only if Peter stays in the background. I know he's immensely proud of Nick I just think it comes off like he is a spotlight hog.

I thought it was a time period, like you could only be a free agent if you've spent 7 years at a club. I suppose Sparrow is in his 8th season so he could just walk out. So any hypothetical trade is pointless.

It's based on years, if you're in the top 25% of earners, as well as if you've been delisted before.

Unrestricted - Served 8 years, not in the top 25%. OR has served 10 years.
Restricted - Served 8 years, in the top 25%.
Delisted - As it says, but also if they've previously been a free agent then they are again whenever out of contract.

For any of them, you need to be out of contract.

Sparrow is unrestricted. So he must not in the top 25% of earners at Melbourne (which is hardly surprising).

If he wants to leave Melbourne can do nothing about it.

What’s the go with everyone suddenly wanting to keep Sparrow after 1 good game and 1 semi-decent game after being a whipping boy for the best part of the decade?
He looks way better under sKing like a lot of others (Sharp for example), I think we have to wipe the Goodyball years from our mind and judge them for what they have looked like this year.

Helps he's not playing fourth bananna to Oliver, Petracca and Viney.

Even when he got some games in the midfield when one of them was out I thought he was shit. Goodyball is cancer.
