I might be living in a fool's paradise but I have high hopes of some of our kids turning into stars. šŸ˜
This thingy of trading or dropping Long just seems a waste. We have picked him as a delisted player and his rate of improvement is massive. He does have flaws and limits. But his strengths and focus are really good. I think he has had several breakouts and given he has just arrived he may surprise. A-Grade no, but could be a very good footballer.

I think Cal mentioned Nick is already putting in the work re getting Butters to Collingwood.

Why would he even bother if it was impossible? We wouldn’t have the draft capital. Sorry but there’s no way you go all in if you know it’s no chance of happening. Port will attempt to match and everyone knows it.

But there is years of strong interest there. Fly joked about Sidebottom putting a hard tag on Butters at the brownlow maybe two or three years ago. They sat at the same table. Nick has been talking up Zak in the media any chance he gets, he even taught him that funny trick of dragging his tagger to the bench and coming back on the field.

They were like brothers during Origin.

There’s something there no doubt.

Maybe we might have to Trade at least 1 Good Player to get what Port would want

Plus they won't be nice after the Houston Trade Saga

I doubt Ned would be on the trade list.

Gettable is a truly insufferable show. Its round 1 and they are already doing this where the story will change every week with different clubs leading the race for these players to fill episodes. No point even worrying about it until close to finals

Especially now when the season just Started

You gotta laugh at the same person who in the last trade period reported that our ā€˜cap is tight’ now reporting we have a ā€˜war chest’, despite the fact that all we did between then and now is retire, delist or trade uncontracted players (Checkers) and bring in draftees and one cheap ruck forward.

Had some respect for Twomey but I guess the challenges of getting your clicks in a revenue constrained media industry disrupted by AI gets to everyone in one way or another.

It was very obvious that we had cash to spare to anyone spending 5min looking at our list make up and reported salaries.

Still don’t see how we get anywhere near the capital required for Butters assuming we’re even in the race. Humphrey I hope so, he should be cheaper (youth is only worth extra draft picks and salary on Bigfooty), abd contracted or not that’d be two seasons in a row of wanting out. Problem is, GC will compete for the flag this year so if they win it he may want to stay to keep sharing that bond, and if they don’t he may want to give it a last push or they may be less inclined to let him go.

We where chasing Simpkin(Not Super Hard) and he would been on Descent Money

It is believable that we have plenty of cap space available given Grundy and Treloar are off the books, and we essentially lost Mihocek and replaced him with Buller.

But I can't believe how the media waffle on expecting us to believe that no one else on our list has taken that money. Like Maynard would be earning more this year than last year, it'd be safe to say he's getting some of that Grundy money. Houston getting Treloar money.

Players get back ended etc. around these contracts all of the time...

I wouldn’t bust the bank for King, another A grade mid next to Daicos would make us insanely dangerous however

Butters and Daicos keeps the window open every year.

Butters may not join Nick if he doesn’t consider us to be a finals aspirant.
Such a stupid way to decide your future. Are the Dogs finals certainties for the next decade? Is anyone? Wonder if Lippa thought he'd be a premiership player when he joined us 2 years after finishing 17th? I find the reasoning very short sighted

The best way for Butters to get to Collingwood if it’s his preferred option and the crows play hard ball.

Butters under Restricted FA says he wants to go to the Pies on a $2.5m deal for 1 year. Then the crows have the option to match it putting pressure on their salary cap.

If they match it then Butters becomes an unrestricted FA the following year and he can walk to the Pies only getting a First round draft compensation. A 12 month delay but Butters is still young enough.

By doing this, this puts pressure on the Crows and creates them to do a more reasonable deal.

Obviously the Pies would give the crows 2 scenarios.

Give a reasonable deal now with 1 year of the draft that’s not Tassie based.

Or force our hand and get allot less in 12 months whilst have a pick that is put back to about pick 12-15 based on Tassie compo.

WTF are the Crows negotiating for Port?

I see our primary needs residing in King and Butters. We are pretty desperate for a serious KPF, Max King is that. Midfield needs another top level player, Zak Butters is that.

Zac Bailey in my opinion wouldn't be worth it. He's a brilliant player and can be a difference maker but has plenty of blunders which Lions fans can probably tell you all about.

Bailey Humphrey would be a solid acquisition and would likely be a DeGoey replacement after he moves on. The most worthwhile recruits though would still be King and Butters as they fill holes that we don't really have a plan for at the moment. Not a lot of confidence that we can get either of them, considering Dogs are the likely front runners for Butters and King seems relatively happy at the Suns.

The club is being run quite well at the moment so hopefully we come out of the end of this year with some proper acquisitions. Feels like we realistically only have another year or two to sort these issues out.
A star would be great - but we may need to spend on a few solid players instead if the hopefuls on our list aren't looking hopeful enough by the end of the year. We're currently very shallow with a few likely to retire.

I'm reading that 10 years at 20million are being suggested as likely.
That's crazy.
I would hope Collingwood has learned its lesson on super long contracts.
No player is worth the risk of a 10 year contract.
It's just too much

The Crows doing the deal on behalf of Port is indeed the best way of getting Butters on the cheap.

Bobby Hill money exiting would be the big game changer

Could get a Few Very Good Players for that kind of Money
