We should avoid trading future firsts for the next 3-4 years. In about 5 years when he qualifies for FA and has become good enough to earn a high enough salary to be an RFA - GC will match and we'll trade pick16 and a future first for him.
If you get a good deal, you take it.We should avoid trading future firsts for the next 3-4 years.

He’s a decent size, but that doesn’t equate to strength. I’d still give him a go though… couldn’t do much worse than Lippa, who just can’t keep up with the pace of the game now. Likewise Saxena could replace De Goey, to provide a spark. And why not give west a go…provided his foot is ok. Sidey also on notice.., whilst hoping that Prindable can start to show some signsSwadling's body size.. he's bigger than you think when you see him up close. I don't think thats an issue.
Think all 3 will need atleast 2-3 consecutive good performances in the vfl in order to be considered for an AFL call up.He’s a decent size, but that doesn’t equate to strength. In: Saxena, West, Swadling
Out: JDG, Lipinski, Membrey
I’m taking culture every time - otherwise you breed a mercenary culture which cuts both ways, where players chose self interest (money) over loyalty.this club needs to learn the ruthless art of how and when to trade assets to capitalise on their worth ...... it also needs to ignore outside noise driven in part by emotional fanbois upset at losing a favourite player (which in fairness it probably does but you do sometimes wonder)
long term i suspect we will regret not accepting trade offers for elliot and cameron
Yeah, no blanket rules pleaseIf you get a good deal, you take it.
Calsher Dear is on the outer at the Hawks.
I don't get the obsession with getting them when they're 18. Who cares that Howe, Hill etc.. arrived later.Yeah, no blanket rules please
Amartey is miles better than the other 2I thought something similar when I read that.
Has anyone ever seen Q Lynch, J White and J Amartey in the same room together?
Or a ruthless culture like Hawthorn. Equals flags.I’m taking culture every time - otherwise you breed a mercenary culture which cuts both ways, where players chose self interest (money) over loyalty.
No thanks.
It's also a particularly bad time to be a cellar dweller with Tasmania coming in. It just doesn't seem likely to lead to great success. Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn & Sydney have all done very well bringing other players inI don't get the obsession with getting them when they're 18. Who cares that Howe, Hill etc.. arrived later.
And frankly, backing yourself in to rebuild thorugh the draft requires you to be hopeless - pretty arrogant to think you can pull it off without multiple years of the best picks. You've got to try to trade to improve your value.
FMD jmac. In your time off you’ve joined the eeyores. Either that or pickles hacked your accountOr a ruthless culture like Hawthorn. Equals flags.

I’m not feeling positive about this season mate.FMD jmac. In your time off you’ve joined the eeyores. Either that or pickles hacked your account![]()
If we fall a bit so be it. We inject some youth, get to see some of the future players. Doesn’t change the fact we’ve had a great run of success. We are run very well, we won’t be down for long. That’s the nature of the comp.I’m not feeling positive about this season mate.
Hope to be wrong.
I have no problem with that. Would like to see some dare in the way we play. Go down swinging. Plus we need to be playing more youth. If we fall a bit so be it. Lynch had easily the best career - Amartey has to improve to catch him.Amartey is miles better than the other 2
Would be happy to get him for free
I think the youth is overblown a bit. We’ve played Steene, Hayes, Allan, Steele, Anderson, with Buller also playing a couple. West carryover for one game, if not for injury probably would have gotten a game.I have no problem with that. Would like to see some dare in the way we play. Go down swinging. Just get the best available player in the MSD. We are blessed with needs in every area of the ground, so we are fortunate to be able to select on talent AND need regardless of the player’s position! Joke’s on you, other 17 clubs!I think the likes of Max Hall show there are some small forward gold nuggets available late or through MSD etc
Bolster the midfield and tall slots through any early picks we can get plus free agents
How much would Jed Walter cost us as a RFA?
Our game plan would crucify him at present. Jed Walter is 195cm (McStay is 195cm, so is Patrick Cripps). The kid is built like an athlete and reminds me of Anthony Koutoufides. No idea. 3rd year and not getting a game is usually cheap. But highly rated young kpf is expensive. Just depends on whether he's still rated. How's he going in the vfl?
60+ goals in a flag year, would’ve loved to get that version when he came hereLynch had easily the best career - Amartey has to improve to catch him.
Well said. The only thing is that if Walters can't get separation - perhaps he's more suited to our system than the GC one - their's need the kps to get marks on the lead and kick goals more than ours does - we need blokes who contest and clunk the occasional one. But who knows if the different systems are to do with personnel or whether we play ours because our forwards are who they are - we've recruited them though. I'm more worried about the lack of class and pace at the fall of the ball. We're just not getting the fast break chain goals or anything at ground level either. It's just grunt. Our game plan would crucify him at present. Jed Walter is 195cm (McStay is 195cm, so is Patrick Cripps). The kid is built like an athlete and reminds me of Anthony Koutoufides.
He is GC’s 3rd tall behind King & Read.
He has played 31 games to date and as a young forward he is still in the development phase.
To date in his career his output has been modest. He averages 4 kicks per game, 2 marks, 1 goal, 1 point and 2 clangers per game, whilst averaging around 70% game time. He struggles with separation and has struggled to impact a game.
He played well against Melbourne last week in his first game for the season. 7 kicks, 7 marks, 4 contested marks, 2 goals, 4 HO.
Yesterday against Sydney he had 6 kicks, 2 marks, 2 goals, 1 point, 2 clangers in 70% game time. The two goals were gimmee and he missed two shots from 30-40m. He again struggled with separation. He did not get a possession after half time.
GCS have a more open forward line, cleaner entries and space for leads and allows their forwards to get separation and take marks on the lead. This is actually helping Walter despite him struggling with separation.
At GCS, he can get space (but isn’t doing it well). In our forward line he’d struggle more than he already is.
Our forward system is based on chaotic entries, frequent long bombs inside 50 and reliance on contests, ground ball gets & forward half-pressure. There is no space and our key forwards must compete every single contest, by bringing the ball to ground & create for our smalls. Our forwards must tackle and pressure. Walter has not shown any strong second-effort or ground presence yet.
