To what? A Hawthorn style? we don't have the kickers. And though Gunston and Chol aren't contested players, Gunston in particular is "Mitchell level smart" when it comes to his craft. His little nudges under the ball and sly sneaks out the back get him so many goals that Amartey would never even think of.

I was thinking more GC who lengthen their forward line to create more leading space. It's what I think we'd do if we get Ben King. I don't think Amartey is good enough to cause the change but if we went with him the change was happening regardless of player.

I think anyone who can produce a second stint of abject failure deserves a ton of credit though. It can be so draining trying to follow up that first stint of abject failure, and the sheer weight of expectation that inevitably comes with it.

He's a very good 3rd tall. If we pay for him to line up at CHF or FF then we'll regret it.

You either like him or you don’t. He will turn 27 in September. 195cm. He has played 66 games and kicked 97 goals.

A very low possession player who averages 5 kicks per game, 2.4 HBs, 2.8 shots at goal per game, 1.5 goals (52% acc), 1 BH, 3 marks, 1 CM, 0.7 marks on lead. His kicking efficiency last year was 47% & this year it is at 55% still below his career average of 57%, and 1 TI50. He has been Sydney’s second ruck. However, this has reduced each year he has played (from 25 ruck contests per game in 2020 to 6 in 2026 winning one 1.5 HO per game.

He’s the kind of player who can kick 3–4 goals and win you a game, then go quiet for the next several weeks.

A comparison with Amartey is Daniel McStay (195cm). 31 in June. McStay averages 5.7 kicks per game, 4.2 HBs. 2.3 shots at goal per game with Pies, 1 goal, .5 BH, 4.2 marks, 1.4CM, 0.7 marks on lead and goal accuracy is 59.3%. 2025 was McStay’s most ruck work with 16.7 contests per game. This year it has reduced to below 7

Where I think McStay clearly edges Amartey is he has better marking numbers; better goal accuracy and more consistent contest impact. Where Amartey edges McStay is higher goal per game average

If we were to get Amartey we are basically getting a younger and statistically poorer version of McStay and that would upset the masses

I was thinking the same, but we need support for Steene. He can’t do it alone.
I will be intrigued with Roo’s development this year. Can he be the second leaping ruckman like Steene? Can he take a contested grab around the ground?

Ryan Gardiner & Mitch Knevitt both playing impressive games in the VFL today. Also, George Stevens would be an upgrade on Allan & Angus.

Gardiner is probably a good Howe replacement.

Knevitt, 23 year old midfielder. He can play. May not be a star but will be a decent midfielder.

I have followed Knevitt since his days as a Geelong Falcon. He is a nice size (193cm). He is one of those players that plays well at VFL level but not at AFL level. There are multiple views on this 1. That he hasn't had a sustained run at AFL level. 2. However he has lacked consistency. He has played around 20 games (6-8 of them as sub). He had one standout game against Dockers last year. He has predominantly played rotating bench/ forward line/ wing/ midfield when he has played without setting the world on fire. He is behind in the pecking order for forwards and midfielders at Geelong. After 5 years if he doesn't get get many chances at AFL level this year it will be time to move or be moved
