I hope this is not the case but if Reef goes on LTI list then… a mid season need like a key defender or more speed might be the bonus we need.

I’m still bullish this season if Howes develops as a backman, Bobby and HH return permanently to the seniors and West or Buller perform well enough to put pressure on McStay and Membrey.

But Mid season draft would assist.

Leppa is list manager. I assume that’s his area.
Good point. Maybe I conflated the timing of this new structure with O’Bree’s arrival.

Not sure why we're going on about Checkers, right move for club & player.
We need that cash he wanted freed up to go FA shopping.
Not to mention, there's a specific thread for this tiresome type of stuff

If we did someone get Butters to nominate us, you could just see Port asking for 2 x firsts plus West, Harrison now that they look like becoming players.

The MSD is never deep enough to be picky. You just take anyone who you think might become afl relevant
As someone else said, I'd be fine with taking Teakle. KPD/Ruck and knows the playing group.

That's unless there's a clear ready made mid that falls to us.

Don’t disagree
I think O’Bree showed last year he will look outside our VFL list for MSD if he thinks there are better options

I don’t think teakle is worth grabbing. He’s already been picked up by Port and north. 2 chances in the MSD. He’s decent vfl player but don’t see him worth a list spot.

Just grab whoever’s likely to have an AFL future. That’s just me.

The depth in MSD just isn’t there to be picky.

In terms of list strategy I think we need to be pretty hard nosed at the end of this season

The likes of Ryan Smit HDM and Jiath etc - we really need to assess if they are the future

And if the answer is no - delist and pay out if need be. Or re rookie if required cap wise

Another Frampton coming up. 👍👍

If we are going shopping we'll need to move a few on. If you go by who is uncontracted for 2027 then among possible retirees you've got Howe Pendles Sidey Membrey and those in trouble would be Ryan Smit Sullivan, I had Howes on that list too but he may have turned the corner, they might offer him another year or two. 7 to 8 players is about right historically.

We also had a chance to get him if we wanted to. I think he's an in-betweener. I agree, I think we'll get who we think has AFL attributes long term. Prob someone between 18-22

Word is we are keen on that mid from geelong's VFL side. So is the eagles as well.
Reigning Geelong VFL best-and-fairest Marcus Herbert is in the sights of AFL clubs including the Cats ahead of the mid-season draft following a dominant display last weekend.
Herbert, 23, was best afield against Werribee in front of recruiters from several clubs, finishing with 34 disposals and two eye-catching goals in a midfield comprising James Worpel, George Stevens and Jhye Clark.
West Coast, Geelong and Collingwood are tracking the smooth-moving halfback/midfielder closely and are among a handful of interested clubs, with the Eagles able to move Jacob Newton to the inactive list after his season-ending foot injury.

Are Tom Sparrow and Kade Chandler good players?

Both free agents this year.

Tom Sparrow had 29 disposals and 9 clearances tonight.

Never really noticed him, but looks good.

King seems to have identified qualities in players that Goody never did. They're all playing inspired, exciting footy. Can't imagine too many wanting to depart.

I’m super sad about Reef. Definition of horrible luck. I hope he can come back and be a good player for us. Only 23. Give him all the time he needs.

When I heard yesterday we were keen on that Geelong midfielder (Herbert) I thought with what pick? Then today Reef goes down…

I wonder if a decent key defender is what we’ll be hoping for.

I’m confident Herbert gets to the Eagles unfortunately.
