You can get worse than that 19-5. You can get a heap of out the front deep or hitting blokes on the lead entries.

Starting behind is safer if they're winning ruck, as when they win first possession they're heading into traffic, if you're in front and they keep you under the ball, they're running into open space when they win it.
They won CB clearances 19-5 - so your suggestion that staying behind them (which we did), would force them into traffic was a tactic that clearly did not work.
Further, the idea that playing infront would allow them to forces us under the ball is again speculative because they played infront all night and we had no success pushing them under the ball.

I agree that predicting the hit zone was a great help to their mids, but to imply no adjustment by our mids could have changed the 19-5 outcome is completely defeatist.

I don’t think Fly is going to throw up his hands and say “ we haven’t got the cattle” - he’ll be proactive and find a solution.

Cornes thinks we ain’t a destination club we don’t attract top liners
Still chuckle at his walk and talks after we stole Perryman and Houston from Port at the last minute.
Port attract the Durdins and Brodie’s at least I suppose

Zac Bailey sounds like he's looking at either staying at the Lions or playing in Adelaide.

Not set in stone of course. No doubt a big enough offer might still turn his head.

Zac Bailey is a gun but not the player we need.

My preference would be someone like Butters that can win their own football.

Next would be a young key forward. Caddy would need to watch more but at face value to have 8 scoring shots against the Brions (with Andrews playing) is a great effort. (I didn't watch the game so feel free to flame away).

It’s amazing what $$$$$$ will do to make your Club look attractive, as Gary Ablett to GC and Judd to Carlton proved.
Judd actually wanted to go to the pies but his management determined that we wouldn’t be able to get a deal done. Blues were his second choice, he didn’t go there because they offered him more $$.

I think the Pratt “deal /enticement ”, may also have been a factor.

Scores from the centre were 15 to 12. So whilst you think you didn't work, that's clearly a good outcome from them dominating the centre bounce ruck.

We could have improved the 19-5 centre clearances by more attacking positioning at CB, but with them controlling the ball drop, it most likely would have resulted in them winning theirs more dangerously and that 15 to 12 blowing out much more in their favour.

Them winning centre clearance gave them a forward half game, but by being more defensive it meant we stopped them from scoring from those entries and then got numbers back to defend repeat entries and get our rebound chains going. Not what we want, but a heap better than them scoring from centre clearances.

"Working under the ball" was the wrong phrase. I meant if we're playing in front they can keep us on the congested side and direct the hitout so they could run onto it with space ahead of them. That's a nightmare to defend.

Gee it’s gonna be tough for the Dogs to secure Butters and try match a bid for NGA-prospect El Souki
would need to get creative in the trade period, I guess being able to use picks in advance might help bring forward some picks. It'll be tricky though.

The 15-12 differential is not an endorsement of our tactics working, but rather their inaccuracy.
While our defence was outstanding, 19-5 CB Clearances is not a differential they’d like our mids to concede in future.

Not sure why it’s shaky? He was the first to drop that we were in to Titch in 2022 and he was bang on the money. I think he has some reasonable sources in regards to who we target.

I would listen to what he says but still long way from it happening

There lot worse the Jay

FFS.

I laughed at the thought of Caddy but now I'm all in.

Neale, Caddy and Butts sounds good to me!

We set up to defend them. I think it was as effective as we could have hoped for considering they dominated centre bounce hitouts and thus could block out Nick and put it in front of Newcombe against the C grade stoppage mids we had in there.

Do you really think the coaching panel aren't watching and aren't getting the clearance data fed to them in real time? And you've picked up something really simple that would have gotten a better outcome.

Butters will be a Dog sadly.
King likely to sign on with GC.

The Pies have to get someone this year. Throw the cash at Neale and see if it turns his head.

Surely they’ll have to trade out high-end talent
Their 2027 1st will probably be in the 30s so it’s almost worthless to Port
It’s also easy to say just trade player/s but they also have to find buyers…and these buyers will know that Dogs need to trade so they have upper hand in negotiations
I can’t see how they do it
Interesting times

Even if we miss Butters, King & Bailey, Neale would still be a huge addition on a 2 year deal with a trigger I reckon.

I would still throw money at, in rough order, any of Darcy Wilson, Riccardi, Brayden Cook (will never happen), or O’Driscoll

It’ll be lucky to be in the 20’s even with the addition of Butters. The Tassie picks will have an impact, but the draft changes around academies and FS will negate that somewhat. They also just aren’t that good.

I think the bigger issue will be that Port have 3 prospects linked to them in that draft (Pilot, Rodan and Salopek) so any picks they bring in across either year will just be chewed up with bids. They’ll want at least 2 best 18 players to trade Butters alongside any 1sts.
