Dayne Beams
A 28 year-old from almost 10 years ago under a different administration, coming off a season where he received 18 Brownlow votes and had averaged 30 touches a game. Just not comparable at all really

My brain was not braining yesterday it seems 😂

Doesn’t that opportunity and need for a guy that kinda coulda shoulda woulda remind you of the Walter situation?
You mean Walter from GC’s perspective? I mean, their career trajectories are not dissimilar, but GC seemingly have a glut of forwards, and a tight cap. We have little midfield depth and cash to splash?

Primarily from the we’ll find out by year end perspective on where both are at because both should now get the locked in opportunity or show their true colours. Although I suspect Walter could fall off a cliff back end of 2026 and still have healthy support purely based on draft number.

FWIW it appears Walter is also getting cash splashed based on Ralphy’s reporting, but I suspect there’s more to that than meets the eye. GC could be at serious risk of going from a position of strength to weakness all on the basis of King umming and arghing.

It does make me wonder if King is giving them some worry

The other half of it though is that it suggests that GC view Walter as a Cam Rayner type situation - just needs to build up the endurance.

My butthole would be clenching if he was a Pie in the same boat. Supposedly throwing 5m x 5 at Walter would suggest they’re of the same mind.

FWIW I think he’s gone. If he’s sticking around why the delay? I’m just not sure where. I’m not hugely keen on him although I acknowledge we need talent ahead of the ball of which his is immense compared to what we have, but it would be hilarious if the reporting of us not chasing him further was to scare the story away.

Are GC expected to match any King offer and force a trade?

It reads as though King is goneski.

And the fact we aren’t even in the conversation shows how far we have fallen
I’m relieved. I acknowledge that he’s a good player, but I don’t think he suits our game style

It sounds like there’s murmurings of them matching and I think it’s plausible, but only if they lose Walter. On the basis of what they’ll now have to offer to retain Walter it becomes a nightmare to retain both without sacrificing elsewhere. I suspect the shifting nature of Walter’s offer is linked to King’s future.

Could do a lot worse then:
  • Jordon Butts (Free Agent)
  • Tom Sparrow (Free Agent)
  • Mitch Lewis (Free Agent)

All 3 could conceivable be a top 2 player in their position in our team.

Then take all our picks to the draft.

Sounds like a StKilda strategy

Maybe we need to be the ones to start changing up our game style a little
Because it’s not working on what we have seen

A different type of player or two and you can make the subtle changes needed to adapt

He enables a different forward set up where we stretch forward more and can hit up at the ball carrier.

It's looks like it's one or the other, King leaves and Walter resigns and if King stays Walter is on the move. Good thing we're into both of them, will help to shake one loose.

His missus wants to come back to Vic, and imo she’ll inevitably get what she wants and GC know it. That’s why GC are suddenly throwing cash at Walter, with the prospect of King leaving they can’t really afford to lose Walter as well.

I’m choosing to believe we’ll land Neale, King and Ballard this off season, and anyone who tries to convince me otherwise can naff off.
