Nice litle hit out in very windy conditions. Amiss and Treacy the biggest positives, Amiss particularly exciting IMO given his last couple of seasons. Young looked short of a gallop or in complete cruize control getting through to round 1.

Murray left a bit out there to be desired and opened his early running spot for Scerri to take it.

Another game like that from Walker next week and he'll clearly have pushed ahead of Warner to get his spot back.

Biggest positives:

  • Murphy picking right up where he left off last year. No signs of second year blues.
  • The form of the 3 KPF's. No sign of last year being a flash in the pan for Voss. Amiss back to leading at the foot and looking better than he did all last year. Treacy looking like Treacy.
  • Some signs we've been working on that quick play on overlap handball finally.

Biggest negative:

- That woeful first qtr. We've just come off a final where we came out looking timid and scared and lost to a team we should have beaten who came out far more composed than us. So practising yet again giving the opposition a 4 goal head start is not what I wanted to see. His inability to get the team fired up to throw the first punch is easily JLo's biggest weakness imo.

I thought today would make the final 3 spots in the best 22 easy. Now I have more questions
Jom Walker worner Ras johnno all looked really good
Realistically apart from Walker, most of those guys were already B23.

Pretty good hit out. Looked the better team for basically the whole game outside the first 10 minutes. No visible injuries.

In terms of new guys:

McVee - looked really rusty but could play a key role for us
M Cox - looked a solid backup but nothing more. Better that Reidy but worse than Darcy
Murray - Tried hard and looked decent for a pressure forward but won’t be in the starting time unless injuries
Scerri - didn’t get much of a go but looked pretty good in a short time. Won’t be B23 for now.

I’m taking nothing out of that first quarter when the wind was that bad.

Is there a world we por que no los dos with Walker and Worner? I despise seeing 8 defenders selected in a team, but the last spot in the "best 23" will probably come down to the 2nd best of Worner/Walker vs the 4th best of Wagner/JOM/Johnno/Ras vs a shake-up like Murray or going full giant with both of Darcy and Cox playing (yuck).

Worner played pretty well also though , distributed the ball quite well for him…. is McVee a lock because he was by far the worst out of those 3

McVee, whether fair or not, is absolutely a lock to start

It was a practice match.

We played a vanilla style. Just wait until we bust out the vanilla with chocolate sprinkles against Adelaide before losing our minds.

I dont see it personally. There's just no need to play 8 defenders, even with the extra player this year. I would lose my shit if they play Cox in the team with our normal full strength talls. He's clearly a depth option and nothing more

Unless we leave Ryan out of the team till he gets 100% fit

Was what helped the eagles get so far ahead
What helped the Eagles get ahead was the fact that we were lazy and / or lethargic for the first 15 minutes, something that has been a pattern for a long time.

If we are to be serious contenders we just need to fix that.

I know, preseason, whatever it needs to be addressed - good sides will punish us.
