And of course, the wind's died down a bit, and is now pushing across rather than down the ground since since the end of the 2nd quarter. Sydney got the full use of the 15-20m when it was gusting a breeze.

  • Coffield a class above in reading the play and knowing how to read the conditions. Neat user of the ball. Not sure how he's a point of difference in our AFL team though, unless Khamis plays another bad game
  • Cleary battled and was clean with ball in hand and in winning the ball but isn't a KPD
  • McNeil was patchy in form, sometimes showed class, sometimes not, but you'd hope he'd win the ball more than his 15 touches
  • Carmichael wasn't sighted early and Swans were doing a role on him. Neat user of the ball, gets to the right spaces, lacks a little bit of athleticism to motor to contests all day or have speed/agility to break pressure.
  • Gallagher looked dangerous when he was around the ball with speed but didn't judge the wind very well. Ball seemed to always kick over his head or fall short of him. Like McNeil you'd almost hope he'd have more than his 14 touches, influenced out in space but didn't get to the clinches and contests nearly as often as you'd like
  • Darcy was a good recruit cheaply and looks like he knows how to play, but it's a bit much to expect him to physically impose himself in packs when he's this skinny
  • Vandermeer was good. Unlean a few times but pressured well early, knew how to attack groundballs. The fact that he won 11 contested possessions when he didn't play a stoppage role speaks to this. He's good enough to be an AFL player.
  • Before his concussion, Kennedy seemed to be able to read Ladham's dominance in the ruck decently, and pressured well. Not all that need in tight spaces. He's had previous concussions, I hope he's okay.
  • Walker was okay, and surprisingly has some nous around goals for a bloke who was recruited as a defender. Needs a gallop to build his fitness. And was asked to play a key position role not as a KPP, his advantage is that he's more athletic than his 192cm frame suggests, not that we should expect him to play taller than that (even if he can jump and leap a bit)
  • Croft didn't do much before he went off and was clearly sore.

Happy if anyone disagrees with me on this: I was multitasking and did not watch especially the 2nd half closely.

VFL players
  • Good on Chan Hargraves giving up 10cm to Ladhams, and not being a ruck. Hargraves had 13 tackles, 14HO himself and 5 clearances. Don't let Ladhams' statline influence the idea that Hargraves didn't play above expectations. He was better than I would have thought coming into this game, given he's not actually a ruckman
  • Billings plays with experience and is neat, but lacks athleticism even relative to Vandermeer types. And is just slightly built even next to VFL players. The fact that he laid 0 tackles is evidence of that Not sure he's a MSD draft answer.
