List Mgmt. 2026 - What do we need?

If Crows lose on Friday is nicks really the benchmark to be compared with.

Adelaide won't be much better off and kicking themselves more than us they pissed away a golden opportunity.
I’d imagine if Adelaide go out in straight sets, Adelaide fans would be angry at Nicks as many of us are at Longmuir.

I don’t think Nicks is a winner either imo.

You just know Chris Scott is going to win the flag. Blokes a winner.

I was of the belief that was a more recent contract. I hope that with Fyfe stepping aside and JOM aging is enough for him to see his worth at the club.
Ras was only more recently offered 3 years (initial offer was less and it brought other clubs into the mix). It seems to me a similar situation to NOD. He will wait for his exit interview and get a feel for where he sits moving forward. Honestly the dogs have a stacked midfield and he has opened up a spot on the wing and potentially half forward as part of midfield rotations. He is good mates with fellow draftee MJ and both are important components of our midfield moving forward. I really like Ras quick hands in the contest. Let’s be honest though his first half of the year was rubbish and he did get opportunities.

Let’s wait and see how this plays out I think it is reasonable for him to wait. Doesn’t mean he is leaving.

As for our list needs. We need improvement from a number of players internally.

  • Amiss needs a very big pre-season. Has gone backwards this year.
  • Dudley shows promise, he needs to have a big pre-season and get leaner.
  • Ras and MJ put on some more muscle.
  • NOD needs a massive pre-season. He did a heap of extra work in his second or third pre-season and had a break out year.
  • Big pre-season and further step up from Cooper Simpson who I see as important addition with run and carry from half backline.

The positive is no major injury issues (aside from Wagner - who shouldn’t miss too much of pre-season). Big Darcy and Hayden Young can hit PS injury free. Hayden in particular never got going and his touch after no continuity was not 100%. A few of his double touch moments last night led to crucial clearances for GCS. Also Bolton had a very disrupted PS coming across underdone from Richmond and had calf /shin issues.

I’m not expecting major trades. We going to ND with picks 11, 29, 38, 47 - all of those will push back due to compo picks.

We need to make some tough calls about players and administrators. I would trade out Freddy, Driz and Darcy. Simon Garlick also has to go. We had a five year plan to win a flag by the end of 2025 and it’s been a failure. We need people in the club who have won flags themselves.

Biggest improvement is off the field.
Best administrations make finals consistently, hiring and firing.

1. Sign Erasmus
2. Improve our identification of players we trade for. If I had to guess, our current criteria is any player wanting to come to the club except for Bobby Hill.
3. Bring in quality players like Ah Chee and McVee
4. Use our first rounder on a player with great to elite skills (ideally wing or small forward)
5. Look at mature agers.
6. Do not over pay for players we bring in. (Ideally target players out of contract)
7. Dudley needs a massive preseason. Need to lose 5kg of fat, and add 5kg of lean muscle.
8. Work out if two rucks and 3 tall forwards work. Not that we have the option, but I would swap one ruck for a similar caliber midfielder.
9. Sign a senior assistant coach who complements JL. Ideally more personal, and a bit more tactical nous. I would like Adam Simpson, and would give Choco a shot as well.

As we have not been linked with any players, it is unlikely the trade period will do much to improve our list.

Great summary yes thats the most important issue getting a running ball distributor off half back hopefully that can be Simpson but remains to be proven.
Can we get much more out of Chapman? was decent this season but could he play wing to add something different?

Move JOM On, for the love of god. If he can’t play contested midfield then what’s the point?
9 disposals tonight. 9.

Swallow and Fyfe had more influence.

Will be livid if the club lets Erasmus go and trade Brodie to keep the same same
Might as well been a cardboard cut out of JOM on the field last night… would’ve probably had more impact…

We need to find a some players from the current list as it doesn’t seem like we are linked to any real stars and we don’t have a heap of draft collateral. Reidy and Brodie leaving gives us maybe a 2-3rd rounder combined.

We can’t be serious contenders with both Banfield & Worner down back, they’re both just meh. Walker or Simpson have to replace one, preferably both. Walker tightens us up and can lock down but then we have him Pearce who can’t kick, Simpson could give us more bounce and I reckon gets the chance first but can he play tight checking?

Erasmus needs to continue to improve with Fyfe gone & JOM fading. Johnson will take some of that time in the middle too and Reid will get a few looks next season.

Shai imo needs to just be told play footy, don’t worry about the game plan and the other 22 guys will play the team game. Just attack attack.

We ain’t getting Kozzie so Dudley hopefully works his ass off pre season and builds into a player. He has plenty to work with, could be a big bonus if he gets a proper pre season.
Pearce's kicking used to be terrible, but is good again

This is where I see our group in 2026 - we are better at contending than last year. We just need players like Young not to be injured.

Will be interesting to see who will suddenly now be whisked off for surgery, with the season finally over.

JLo implied in his press conference no one that took the field today.

Any chance of enticing Matt Rowell to us and JOM the other way? 🥴

He is an absolute contested beast…

He’s been a terrible recruit, thrust into the leadership group, for what exactly?

I don’t see any on field leadership, he consistently butchers opportunities, can’t chase, he’s had 5 above average games in 3 years. We should have been fast tracking Erasmus yet he had to bide his time for this joke of a player. We lose Meek to Hawks, pay a 2nd round pick as extras, yet get the much worse player.

And Brodie is out the door the other way.
Make it make sense.

I like to place the magnets and see what it looks like

Simpson Cox Ryan*
Clark Pearce Chapman
Drizz* Young Johnson
Reid Treacy Bolton
Freddy* Amiss Voss

Darcy Serong Brayshaw
Erasmus Jackson Dudley Wagner Switta. There Will by 5 on the bench.

*needs Work.

IMO we need a winger another quality small forward and a running half back to replace Ryan.

If Reid is transitioning to midfield we need two quality small forwards

We have Worner, Draper and Walker as back options but they don’t really turn the dial.
Sharp is the only other wing option we have and he’s no Ollie Dempsey
Off the list or basically cooked and should not play:

Fyfe, Narkle, Walters, Sturt, Banfield, Delean, Murphy? Aish, O’Meara, Reidy, Brodie, Carr (don’t see the point of him. 22 years old and playing reserves)

Still have time: Riddle, Nicholls, Davies

Whan is coming, maybe Farrow.

I’d love to be able to get Humphrey etc

I think our list profile is out of whack with too many talls. We need more med, small options across every line.

I’d cut/trade Reidy, McDonald and Jones and replace them with 1 journeyman ruckman like Teakle. All the other options through the draft, trade, DFA, SSP should be smalls or mediums in the 175cm to 193cm range. Sturt moved to rookie or long term injury list with someone coming in to fill his spot as well.

Out:
Fyfe, Walters, Aish, McDonald, Narkle, Brodie, Reidy, Jones & (Sturt).

Can’t see us being worse off next year with those outs and bringing in a combination of draft picks and some readymade players.

Agree with all those outs except for OMac. He’s good depth and needed for whenever Pearce inevitably gets injured.

We shouldn’t cut McDonald. He’s perfect kp depth.

Jones is gone, Reidy is gone.

Sounds like OMac will be kept and I do like him as depth but we have too many talls and he’s out of contract vs the young KPDs who eventually need some game time.
